Story Highlights
- Players can skip the opening village fight in the Resident Evil 4 remake by shooting the church bell.
- It immediately ends the fight and the villagers move toward the church.
- Preferably you need a scoped rifle for this, but any weapon will suffice as long as you hit the target repeatedly.
Resident Evil 4’s remake lets you breeze past the village fight at the start without even breaking a sweat. The 2005 original was popular for its opening sequence that pits our protagonist Leon against a horde of infected villagers but in the title’s remade counterpart, the battle has been reduced to a mere optional set piece. All it takes now is an accurate hit of the large bell in the distance to send the Ganados off duty.
Today I learned you can skip the opening village fight in Resident Evil 4 Remake by shooting the bell from a rooftop. A scoped rifle makes it easier, obviously.

You can skip this boss fight with minimal casualties by just shooting the church bell. In both the original Resident Evil 4 and the remake, the fight only ends after a ringing church bell distracts all of the villagers. Therefore, by just completing this action a little bit earlier, you can end the fight without any trouble.
You will preferably need a scoped rifle to quickly take down the bell as it is far away. But, players can use other weapons too, they just have to make sure to hit the target repeatedly. The user in the video achieved this feat in New Game Plus so don’t fret too much if you can’t find a rifle. Considering how the alternative is facing off against a grueling horde of mind-controlled villagers, this shortcut is worth a try.
The presence of such a hack in the first place highlights how much attention to detail there is. Resident Evil 4’s remake has received universal acclaim for perfectly recreating one of the best games of all time. Directors Kazunori Kadoi and Yasuhiro Ampo found a way to perfectly combine advanced gameplay mechanics with the original’s core. And, the result has potentially given Capcom the best Resident Evil game of all time.
Its success on Steam is just further proof of how remarkable this remake is. Resident Evil 4 became the franchise’s biggest launch on the platform, beating out Resident Evil Village. Moreover, it was only behind two Monster Hunter games in the overall Capcom CCU ranking on Steam. If the reviews didn’t convince you, the game will have mods allowing you to play as CJ.
Hence, the Resident Evil 4 remake is certainly going to be fun and will also expand on Luis Sera’s story while being the same length. Capcom has also been listening to fan feedback and is releasing patches to remove the weird rain effects.
Resident Evil 4 is available right now on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.
