Honkai: Star Rail, a new space-fantasy RPG by the developers of Genshin Impact, has surpassed the 20 million downloads checkmark in just a day after its release. The game saw its launch on iOS, Android, and Windows on April 26 after a fairly solid marketing campaign and closed beta tests. Based on its current downloads, the game might break Genshin Impact’s download record on mobile devices within the first week.

Furthermore, the game secured the number-one spot on download charts in several countries. A celebration was announced in response to Honkai: Star Rail’s fantastic performance across multiple platforms. Players will also be given 10 Star Rail Special Passes for use on the day of the live stream. The event is scheduled for April 30 and will be broadcasted on the game’s official YouTube and Twitch channels.
The story of Honkai: Star Rail takes place in the larger Honkai continuity but is not a direct sequel to the last game, Honkai Impact 3rd. Due to the nature of its story and where it takes place, players may believe it to have a straight connection to the previous entry. This belief is further solidified by the game having alternate versions of certain characters from the preceding game.
Honkai: Star Rail features turn-based combat and RPG mechanics. Players who’ve spent some time with previous Honkai titles and Genshin Impact will find themselves in a familiar environment. Gacha mechanics and other in-game microtransactions also make a return. While the terms may put some players off, it’s essential to consider the quality of the experience that is on offer.
Early reviews for the game followed by the buzz within the community have been largely positive. Honkai: Star Rail currently sits at a rating of 83 based on 4 critic reviews on the aggregator site, Metacritic. Considering the track record of miHoYo and its previous project, Genshin Impact, it’s safe to assume that Star Rail will follow the same path to success.
You can experience the expansive, free-to-play space adventure on Android, iOS, and Windows. The developers have also confirmed that Honkai: Star Rail will be released on PlayStation consoles at a later date.
