Initially spotted by Gematsu, it seems the GBA Castlevania games are finally releasing on modern consoles with the Advance Collection. A listing for the Castlevania Advance Collection can be clearly seen on the Taiwan Ratings Board website. While the listing has since been removed, Gematsu took a screenshot of the actual listing that clearly shows the name and the platforms on which it is releasing on.
This wasn’t the first time this collection has been leaked either, it was also previously leaked by an Australian Rating Board back on June 15th. While I personally have hoped for a release of all 6 handheld Castlevania games including the DS titles Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia in a single collection, the “Advance” in the title is a pretty dead giveaway for the games that are going to be in this collection.
We can likely assume that this collection is going to include all the 3 GBA titles which are Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow.
This is also going to be the second collection that Konami is going to release for the Castlevania series, with the Castlevania Anniversary Collection, which came out on May 16, 2019, and included 8 full games with Castlevania, Castlevania II Simon’s Quest, Castlevania III Dracula’s Curse, Super Castlevania IV, Castlevania The Adventure, Castlevania II Belmont’s Revenge, Castlevania Bloodlines, and the previously un-translated Kid Dracula.
The Collection was a great re-release of classic Castlevania that included a handful of neat updates to the games including save states, optional filters, and a customizable Aspect-Ratio. Konami also later released another collection of a different old-school franchise with the Contra Anniversary Collection. Based on that we can also probably assume that other classic Konami franchises might be making a return with these re-releases. And I can only hope that Konami one day releases the Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill series on Steam and modern consoles someday…
