The Street Fighter series is Capcom‘s flagship franchise that spans a 35-year-long history of fighting games, with some of them sporting a genre-defining experience for other players in the industry. The first-ever Street Fighter came out in 1987, and the second one, titled Street Fighter II is currently the series’ best-selling game to date. Outside of the multiple spin-offs and crossover games, there is a total of six main Street Fighter entries.
As for Street Fighter 6 itself, Capcom must be enjoying the immense success of its latest launch. The title has seemingly shattered the record for the highest concurrent player count of all other major fighting game titles, including ones that belong to Tekken, Mortal Kombat, and Street Fighter itself. At the moment, Street Fighter 6’s concurrent players peaked out at 70,573 users two days ago according to SteamDB. Fairly monumental.
A quality of life addition to the game outside of the bundle of novelties it’s introduced so far is a display icon signaling whether your opponent is using a wired or a Wi-Fi connection. More often than not, you can use this piece of information to figure out the root cause of why your match-up isn’t running smoothly. Tekken 8 as well can surely benefit from the functionality in question.
Nifty little features and an overall gameplay overhaul have fine-tuned Street Fighter 6 to near perfection, making it wholly successful upon launch and subjecting it universal acclaim from fans and critics all over the globe. Things are looking nice and tight on the Metascore front as well, with the game having earned a cool 93 up until now. Combine this with the recent 1-million player statistic and you’ve got yourself the cherry on top.
