Gunfire Games’ latest entry has seen record-breaking success. Remnant 2 is steadily climbing the echelons of Steam charts to hit nearly 100,000 concurrent players while gunning down the challenging monsters in the game. As recorded by the Steam tracking site SteamDB, the entry has seen a steep increase in players since the weekend began, and the all-time high peak has now reached the huge 96,836 threshold about seven hours ago.
The game seemingly managed to reach over 83,000 concurrent players two days ago. The number of players has slowly kept ascending the Steam charts since then, even when a few days have passed since release. Now the number has climbed nearly the 100,000 mark that only a few massively AAA popular games ever get to hit on Steam compared to millions of releases.
It is worth noting that the player count has taken a slight dip since the all-time high peak record was set. However, Steam sees a large influx of players on Sunday, and we may see Remnant 2 finally surpassing the massive milestone soon enough. To put things into perspective, this is Gunfire Games’ most populated game at the moment, and only the original Remnant: Fires from the Ashes could stand a minuscule chance at competing.
The first entry in the series currently only has nearly 3,500 players enjoying the hearty combat and Souls-like mechanics. Its all-time high stood at 50k players four years ago. The sequel has significantly improved over all the features present in the first game. As a result, the title launched with twice as many concurrent players as the first game. Darksiders 3, in third place, has an all-time peak of over 7,000 users.
Remnant 2 has sold like hotcakes and clawed to Steam and Epic Games’ best-sellers list before release. It was not long for the Souls-like title to dominate over the established AAA giants of the Steam store, like Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, and many other prominent releases. It also outsold the highly anticipated and innovative RPG, Baldur’s Gate 3, some time ago in the store.
Despite bathing in all the glamour, the third-person shooter is not free of criticism by the community. Remnant 2 is unfortunately plagued with a slew of performance and optimization issues that cause even the beefiest of PCs to struggle. The devs explained recently that the Dark RPG was designed with upscaling in mind to achieve the best performance, which was a bit of a letdown for the fans.
Regardless, future patches are already in the works to weed out the glitches and boost optimization. The devs have sprinkled “secrets within secrets within secrets” in the game, and it is a blast to play alone or with friends. Remnant 2 was released on July 25 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. It comes on two discs for the Xbox Series X, unlike the PS5, and essentially skips the last-gen consoles.
