A couple of days ago, Assassin’s Creed 4 mysteriously disappeared from sale on Steam. The game is still listed and playable for people who own it. But making new purchases isn’t currently possible. This led to fans thinking that Ubisoft might be working on a Black Flag remake, with a potential surprise release on the horizon. However, as it turns out, the real answer is much simpler (thanks PC Gamer).
We are aware that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is currently unavailable for purchase on Steam. This is due to a technical issue, and our teams are working on a solution to bring it back as soon as possible.”
The studio clarified that they are aware that the game is currently unavailable for purchase on Steam. They added that this is because of a technical issue, and their teams are working on resolving it. They are hoping to have it be purchasable on the platform again as soon as possible. This update has left some fans feeling disappointed.
Assassin’s Creed 4 is considered by many to be one of the best titles in Ubisoft’s long-running series. While it is still just as good today as it was when it was released back in 2013, many fans have been wanting to see it get the bells and whistles of a current-gen title. Rumors of the Black Flag potentially getting a remake initially spread because of a Kotaku report published in June.
According to the report, Ubisoft is already working on remaking the game. Though it is reportedly still in very early development at the moment. Interestingly enough, the report also claimed that the studio was still making Skull and Bones. This is a multiplayer piracy game that was meant to serve as the spiritual successor to Black Flag’s naval combat.
That said, while an eventual remake of the Black Flag might still be in the cards, its Steam unavailability has nothing to do with it. And as sad as that might be for some fans to hear, it may ultimately be for the best. That’s because Assassin’s Creed 4 might be the wrong title to bring back. The game holds up fairly well, even by current standards.
Additionally, with Mirage taking the franchise back to its roots, fans might not even feel like they need a modern take on Black Flag.
