Forspoken Update 1.22 Adds Support For FSR3, Enables Frame Generation

Square Enix has rolled out version 1.22 for Forspoken, implementing support for AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 and enabling frame generation. The patch notes dive deep into the new features and compatible hardware while outlining some of the known issues that have been addressed.

According to the notes, FSR3 combines upscaling technology and frame generation in order to deliver higher levels of performance. Elaborating on the support of frame generation, the notes state that it is enabled separately and is available when using AMD Radeon RX 5000 Series, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 Series, and Intel Arc 7 Series or newer GPUs. The setting can be found in the Graphics section of the menu.

Patch 1.22 of Forspoken also addresses an issue with the Steam version of the game. An error causing save data for the main game to appear in the DLC’s save data slot and the save data for the DLC to appear in the former’s save data slot has been fixed. It should be noted that this fix only applies to newly created save files.

A known issue has also been brought up in the patch notes for version 1.22 of Forspoken. It was discovered that low frame rates could be experienced on some 240Hz and higher refresh rate monitors when FSR3 Frame Generation and VSync were enabled. In order to remediate the problem, the devs advise players to ensure their graphics drivers are up to date. Alternatives include disabling VSync or setting your monitor to lower refresh rates.

The open-world Isekai RPG launched in January 2023 to an underwhelming reception from critics and players alike. While some praise was directed towards its combat, universal criticism was given to its writing, character portrayal, bland open-world, and shallow story. Sales of the game were below expectations, leading to Luminous Studios being merged back into Square Enix.
