Mortal Kombat 1 Receives Huge New Update On Consoles

Expect a variety of different fixes making their way to you, including bug patches and feature additions.

Story Highlights

  • Mortal Kombat 1, being a reboot, is the latest rendition in the Mortal Kombat franchise.
  • The game is one of the few releases this year that have launched with minimal bugs and issues.
  • Developer NetherRealm has outed a new patch for the title, and it brings a load of changes.

Over 3 weeks ago, Mortal Kombat 1 received a patch that brought a number of improvements to the fighting game, but now, it seems that the devs have doubled down on the changes, coming up with one whopper of a new update. It bears noticing that the patch is for the game’s PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions at the moment, with a PC and Nintendo Switch variant still in the pipeline.

Alongside stability updates and other general performance enhancements, a myriad of character-oriented changes have been applied to the game too, with figures such as Scorpion, Rain, Raiden, Havik, Baraka, and Ashrah all becoming a tad bit better than their previous standings. Lastly, both the Practice and Story Modes have seen refinement as well.

All New Features Added To Mortal Kombat 1

In summary, here all the new feature additions to Mortal Kombat 1 arriving in the wake of the latest update:

  • Added Halloween Finisher, which is available in the Premium Store
  • Added Halloween Variant to Cage Mansion Arena, available for free to all players
  • Added ability to Tag Moves to the screen during play from the Move List
  • Added Online Leaderboards to Klassic Towers
  • Added Voice Chat Options to Mute Yourself & Mute Other Players to Main Menu Audio
  • Added Forever King Mode to Online KOTH

Fan Reaction To The New Update

Though the balance adjustments and some of the new features are fairly welcome, one point in particular has stood out from the patch notes in question. It appears that the devs have added a fatality to the in-game Premium Store of Mortal Kombat 1, therey putting the finishing move on sale. What’s disappointing is, this is the only way you can get the specific “Halloween” fatality.

As the news of the patch found itself making way to Reddit, players have commented on how they feel about the situation in question. Teddyhouzz91 says, “So lame to charge for fatalities. It really hurts to watch your favorite games fall into such corporate shells of themselves.” On the other hand, some are in utter disbelief, inquiring, “Halloween fatality is paid content? Are you kidding me??

Along those lines, many have compared Mortal Kombat 1 to Overwatch 2, highlighting that both games feature characters as paid DLC that should’ve been part of the base game already. In addition, the additional skins that you could’ve unlocked through gameplay back in the day now have to be purchased off its marketplace. And as for their prices, well, that’s another story
