The sequel to Alan Wake — one of the greatest survival horror-themed games of all time — is finally unfolding the next chapter in the titular Alan Wake’s life, dropping 13 years after the first title. In recent times, Xbox has revealed a new launch trailer for the title, giving us yet another glimpse of what’s about to befall the lives of the two protagonists taking center stage in this next iteration.
The sequel’s premise seems to be trying to connect two entirely different ends of the equation: There’s Alan on one side trying to escape his nightmare following the events of the first game, and then there’s a federal agent trying to get to the bottom of “ritualistic murders” in a small-scale town. Of course, this much is clear that it’s the Dark Presence yet again, manipulating innocent people into mass killings.
Alongside the launch trailer, new gameplay footage of Saga Anderson has also been unveiled, showcasing the agent traversing what appears to be a sizable house and facing a morbidly structured foe. It bears noticing that Saga responds to enemy responses in real-time, thereby offering more depth to the gameplay. Some of the sequences in there are fairly disturbing; caution is advised.
As Alan Wake 2 comes out tomorrow, it bears noticing that Remedy has big plans around its shared universe that spans Control and the Alan Wake franchise. It’s not clear whether other games, such as the Max Payne series, are in on the idea or not, but this is probably something that will come out in the open in due time.
Up until now, both Control and Alan Wake 2 have been giving fans signals that there are factors in play that link one another. For starters, this clip from the latter’s gameplay shows Ahti — a janitor in Control — singing on stage, to everyone’s surprise. On the same side, Control’s DLC expansion called AWE has also hinted at an Alan Wake sequel, thereby confirming that both these games share the same universe.

In other news, Alan Wake 2 is measuring up to be one whopper of a game, with hefty PC requirements for running it smoothly. Fans, obviously, haven’t taken the news lightly, especially following the analysis that only 7% of PC players across the world will be able to run the title on high settings. That’s pretty much a bummer, with many complaining that they waited all these years just not to play the sequel at all.

Furthermore, you better be wary of your storage if you plan on getting Alan Wake 2 on day one. The file size of the title is reportedly around 80 GB, and with follow-up updates and patches coming right after, expect that to cross the century mark by the end of 2023. For those not in the know, the highly anticipated sequel will have a digital-only release, at least on launch.
Alan Wake 2 will make landfall for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 27, 2023. We recently sat down with Sam Lake in an interview, where it was uncovered, alongside other interesting things, that Saga Anderson could have a relation to the Anderson Brothers from the first game. Here’s a list of all Alan Wake 2 voice actors and cast, just so you’re well-informed.
