Ark: Survival Ascended’s New Update Brings Mod Support To Consoles

Ark: Survival Ascended has been graced by the Winter Wonderland update in recent times. The new rush of seasonal content boasts an array of new changes for the game, including cross-play introduction for its battle royale spin-off Survival of the Fittest, which is where 60 combatants go toe-to-toe against each other while staying actively aware of other environmental dangers as well. 

Thanks to Xbox Era documenting the press release, we now know that the Winter Wonderland update comes chock-full of tweaks that decorate the in-game world of Survival Ascended with the Christmas theme. But the aesthetics aren’t the only concern of the new patch; expect PC mods coming over to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles for the first time in the franchise’s history. 

For the first time ever, ARK mods crafted on PC will run on consoles versions of ASA, with 600+ mods now available for cross-platform play, and many more added every day. New cross-platform Mods are spotlighted weekly, this week including Goblins and Trolls, Human NPC’s, and Powerful “Ascended” Dinosaurs. Everything from new weapons, armor, and creatures to fully-fledged game modes and high-quality maps are now easily available to both PC and console players through a dedicated Mod-browser found directly within the game.”

It bears repeating that the mods are cross-platform, so what works on PC will work on the console of your choice as well. The dev explains that players will now observe the availability of a specialized “Mod browser” in-game. Use that to tinker with the survival-themed title.

On a side note, Ark: Survival Ascended has sold over 600,000 copies within the first two weeks of its global release, marking a milestone for the remake to boot. The CEO of the developer Studio Wildcard instilled hope in the player base and said at the time, “We’re excited about the journey ahead and can’t wait for players to experience the next level of adventure in the ARK universe.”

As opposed to its original release schedule, the game came out on October 25, 2023, for PC, with an Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 version coming the month after. It’s a remade version of Ark: Survival Evolved from 2017, boasting enhanced visuals, a better environment, more depth of characters, and the use of Unreal Engine 5.
