Story Highlights
- Tomb Raider: Catalyst is now targeting a 2028 release.
- An Amazon Games executive confirmed the delay, putting an end to speculation surrounding its launch window.
- No specific 2028 release date has been announced, while further gameplay and platform details remain limited.
Lara Croft’s next major adventure will take longer to arrive than previously expected. Tomb Raider: Catalyst has officially been pushed into 2028, adding another substantial wait for fans eager to see where Crystal Dynamics takes the iconic franchise next.
The delay was confirmed by an Amazon Games executive, although neither Amazon Games nor Crystal Dynamics has provided a precise release date. For now, 2028 is the only confirmed window players have to work with.
“Atlantis comes February 12 of next year, and then we’ll follow on in 2028 with the next one,” – says Amazn game boss Jeffery Gattis.
A Longer Wait Could Ultimately Help Lara Croft

A delay of this size immediately raises questions about the state and scope of the project. Without an official technical explanation, though, claims of development trouble would be pure speculation.
The less dramatic possibility is also the more reasonable one: Crystal Dynamics simply needs additional time. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis was recently delayed to February 17, 2027, which makes it obvious that it needed all hands on deck pushing the Catalyst release window even further.
Modern Tomb Raider games depend heavily on polished traversal, environmental puzzles, cinematic presentation, and responsive combat. If Catalyst is trying to push those elements further, rushing it out would do Lara Croft no favors.
What Happens Next?
If Legacy of Atlantis isn’t further delayed, we can expect Tomb Raider: Catalyst to release just as scheduled. A new release date should be expected sometime in 2027.
Tomb Raider: Catalyst is currently confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC (via Steam), and Amazon Luna.
