Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has reportedly sold 3.5 million copies within its first two weeks, giving Ubisoft a major commercial win.

Black Flag Resynced Sailed Past Ubisoft’s Expectations

According to Ubisoft’s investors’ report, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has crossed 3.5 million copies sold. Doing that in two weeks would be impressive for practically any release, but the comparison with Ubisoft’s own expectations makes this milestone stand out.

According to Ubisoft’s Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer :

The strong launch of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced in early July by Vantage Studios is an encouraging proof point. The game is the highest-rated Assassin’s Creed title since the original Black Flag, and we are very pleased with the praise it received from players. Two weeks in, the title has already exceeded the annual expectations we had.” – Yves Guillemot

Ubisoft Sees More Money In Remakes

Resynced’s performance could also influence how Ubisoft approaches its extensive back catalog. According to the Q1 FY27 earnings call, CEO Frederick Duguet said that remakes have stronger profit margins and lower development costs compared to new releases, mostly due to established name and reduced marketing cost.

“You also benefit from the awareness of the game, so you can come with lower marketing, but you don’t have the same price as a full game.”

For players, however, that strategy is a double-edged sword. Thoughtful remakes can preserve excellent games while improving visuals, controls, accessibility, and performance. On the other hand, an industry overly dependent on old hits risks becoming painfully predictable.

More Assassin’s Creed Remakes Now Look Likely

Ubisoft has not confirmed that every classic Assassin’s Creed entry will receive the Resynced treatment. Still, selling 3.5 million copies and beating a full year’s expectations in two weeks sends a rather convincing message.

Black Flag Resynced is no longer merely a nostalgic experiment. It is evidence that carefully selected Assassin’s Creed remakes can become major releases in their own right, and Ubisoft will almost certainly be paying attention.
