Helldivers 2’s Next Server Upgrade For 800,000 Concurrent Players Coming Soon

Helldivers 2 is making waves across the industry for its incredibly fun gameplay, but one of the major areas where it’s significantly lacking is multiplayer playability across PC and PlayStation 5. After constantly increasing server capacity and taking it up to a significant level, Arrowhead Game Studios’ CEO Johan Pilestedt has confirmed that the server cap is about to hit an 800,000 CCU maximum shortly.

At the end of the post, Johan remarks on the gravity of the situation, expressing how far Arrowhead has come with Helldivers 2 if you compare the sequel with the first game while constituting no more than a ~100-member workforce. Taking almost 8 years to develop, the third-person shooter has blown past estimates, rolling over more than a million copies to date.

As for the server capacity, Arrowhead only recently buffed up the servers, taking the peak player accomodation to 700,000 users. At that time, though, the devs weren’t confident regarding the change either, saying that with the amount of interest folks have taken in their game, that cap is not going to hold, and that’s what happened—it did not hold.

Helldivers 2 was released on February 2, 2024, for the PlayStation 5, following its announcement during last year’s State of Play. As far as PlayStation exclusives landing on PC go, the title has had the biggest launch out of any other first-party PlayStation game in terms of Steam concurrent player count, going way past the 400,000 mark.
