Helldivers 2 Has Highest Concurrent Player Peak On Steam For A PlayStation Title

The third-person action shooter has surpassed the record set by God of War.

Helldivers 2 has started breaking records hours after release as the shooting title has obtained the highest Steam concurrent player count for a title published by PlayStation. The third-person shooter reached its all-time peak of 81,840 players shortly after launching on the platform, becoming the most successful first-party Sony title on PC.

To achieve this landmark, Helldivers 2 surpassed 2018’s God of War from Santa Monica. The action-adventure game launched on PC via Steam on January 14, 2022, and attained 73,529 concurrent players on the platform over two years ago. Hence, Helldivers 2 has overtaken the highly acclaimed title in its first weekend.

In the overall list, Spider-Man Remastered’s PC port stands at the third spot with 66,436 concurrent players when it launched on Steam in August 2022. Horizon Zero Dawn’s decent 56,557 concurrent player peak bows at fourth place while The Last of Us Part 1 remake ended up at the fifth spot with its PC port from last year peaking at 36,496 users at the same time.

Helldivers 2 is one of the few games published by Sony that was released on the same day for both a PlayStation console and PC. The title serves as a sequel to 2015’s Helldivers which came out on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PC, and PS Vita. Just like its predecessor, the shooter features multiplayer up to four people with players having the ability to pick Strategems.

So far, the game’s reception on Steam has been mixed because of bug issues and crashes due to the title’s popular release. Arrowhead Studios has already released a patch to fix these problems with more updates on the way. In addition, the developers have also promised free content for the title and other DLCs, confirming their commitment to the project.
