Level 0 – 50

To reach Engineering level 50 from 0, you’ll need to accumulate 13,350 XP points. The initial levels don’t require much XP, making it a relatively quick journey.

At level 0, there aren’t many items to craft, but Gunpowder stands out as a valuable option. It’s cost-effective, incurs low taxes, and provides a decent amount of XP points (94 XP per craft). While some suggest crafting Iron Arrows, it’s not recommended due to the high cost of iron and the low selling price of the arrows. Stick with Gunpowder.

You’ll need to craft 140 Gunpowders to reach your XP goal. Crafting Gunpowder is straightforward, and the materials are easy to gather. The tax for crafting 140 Gunpowders will only be 7 Gold Coins, which is a negligible expense.

Gunpowder Materials

Let’s look at the materials required to craft 140 Gunpowder to reach Engineering level 50 in New World.

  • 700x Charcol: Charcoal is made from wood, which you can get from all over the map of the New World and then smelt it to get charcoal.
  • 280x Flint: Flint is also easy to find and gather.
  • 140x Salpter: Lastly, Salpter is not that hard to get by, so you should get your hands on plenty.

Once you gather all the materials required, head over to the Workshop to craft the amount of Gunpowders needed. If you are not at level 0, you will not need 140 Gunpowders. That is why calculate the amount you are going to need first. You can even buy some of the materials, but it’s better to farm for them in the long run instead of buying them.

Level 50 – 100

Things get a little rough after achieving Engineering Level 50. Still, we will get you through that and help you get to engineering level 100. To reach engineering level 100, you will need about 168,600 more XP Points on top of the ones you have just gathered to reach Engineering Level 50.

The item we will be crafting to reach Engineering level 100 is the Lacquered Wood Bow because the number of bows you need to craft is less. But the amount of Timber you require is a lot. We have a solution for that, and we will look at that in the Materials portion. But if you do not want to craft the Lacquered Bow for some reason, you can keep on crafting the Gun Powder.

Now, let’s look at the Lacquered Bow and what quantity of them you will need to reach Engineering level 50 in the New World. Each Bow gives you 810 XP Points, and with that calculation, you will need 192 Bows to get 168,600 XP Points or Engineering level 100. To craft 192 Lacquered Bows, you will pay 155.00 Gold Coins. While on the subject of bows, here are our Best New World Bow.

However, with Gun Powder, you need to craft around 1,618 Gun Powders to get to Engineering level 100. And the tax you will pay will be 80.90 Gold Coins, which is almost half of what you are paying with the Bow.

Lacquered Wood Bow Materials

Now come to the materials required for the Bow and how many you will need of them.

  • 2,496x Tier 3 Timber: This is the hardest thing to get your hands on since you will need 2,496 Lumbers. You need Timber, Aged Wood, and Coarse Sandpaper to craft Lumber, but their number will be insane. Then for Timber, you need to gather Green-Wood.
  • 576x Leather: For leather, we can use Coarse Leather, which is easy and cheap to get.
  • 384x Cloth: The cloth can be either Linen or Sateen, but Linen is cheap, so go with that.

Coming to our tips to gather Timber. When you are crafting Timber, switch Coarse Sandpaper with Obsidian Sandpaper. This will reduce the amount of Green-Wood required by half. But it is recommended only when you can afford or farm for the high-tier Sandpaper.

Gun Powder Materials

The materials you will require to craft 1,618 Gun Powder is as follows:

  • 8,090x Charcol: The best wood to smelt for charcoal is the Green-Wood, which is very easy to come by.
  • 3,236x Flint: This is one of the easiest raw materials to gather.
  • 1,618x Salpter: And Salpter is easy is as well.

And once you collect all the materials needed for either the Gun Powder or the Lacquered Bow, go to the Workshop and get the XP points needed after crafting.

Level 100 – -150

The XP requirements for Engineering levels beyond 100 can be daunting. To reach level 150, you’ll need a total of 1,095,200 XP, in addition to the 168,600 you already have. Two items, the Wyrdwood Spear and the Wyrdwood Fishing Pole, can help you reach this goal. Here’s a breakdown of the differences between the two:

  1. Wyrdwood Fishing Pole (Recommended):
    • Required for level 150.
    • You need 344 of these poles since each one grants 3,192 XP points.
    • The total tax paid amounts to 632.96 Gold Coins.
    • Recommended due to the difficulty of gathering metal.
  2. Wyrdwood Spear (Alternative):
    • Also required for level 150.
    • You’ll need 344 Wyrdwood Spears, as they provide 3,192 XP points each.
    • The tax amount is the same, totaling 632.96 Gold Coins.
    • The advantage is that it requires less Tier 4 Timber.

Ultimately, the choice between the Wyrdwood Fishing Pole and the Wyrdwood Spear depends on your access to materials. The Fishing Pole is recommended due to the challenge of obtaining metal.

Wyrdwood Fishing Pole Materials

To craft 344 Wyrdwood Fishing Poles, you’ll need a substantial amount of materials:

  • 4,816 x Tier 4 Timber: Craft Wyrdwood Planks, which require Lumber, Sandpaper, and Wyrdwood. Lumber production necessitates Green Wood.
  • 1,032 x Leather: Coarse Leather is the most cost-effective choice.
  • 688 x Cloth: Opt for Linen as the cloth material.

For crafting 344 Wyrdwood Spears, you’ll require:

  • 4,128 x Tier 4 Timber: Again, you’ll need Wyrdwood Planks for Tier 4 Timber.
  • 1,720 x Metal: Iron Ingot is the preferred and easiest metal option.
  • 688 x Leather: Coarse Leather works best for leather.

The key difference between these two crafting options lies in the choice between cloth and metal materials and the additional quantity of Tier 4 Timber required. Regardless of your choice, once you’ve gathered the necessary materials, head to a Workshop to craft your way to Engineering level 150 in New World.

Level 150 – 200

Reaching Engineering Level 200 in New World requires an additional 5,607,000 XP Points, making it a substantial challenge. In this final phase, you’ll craft two items, the Ironwood Spear and Ironwood Fishing Pole, much like in the third phase. However, the choice of materials is crucial, and we’ll discuss that in the material section to help you decide.

Each Ironwood Fishing Pole grants 10,080 XP Points, so you’ll need to craft approximately 557 fishing poles to reach the goal. The tax for crafting these poles is relatively low, totaling 2,500.93 Gold Coins.

The Ironwood Spear also provides 10,080 XP Points per craft. To attain Engineering Level 200 or 5,607,000 XP Points, you’ll need to craft 557 spears. The tax for crafting spears is the same as for fishing poles, amounting to 2,500.93 Gold Coins.

Ironwood Spear Materials

To craft 557 Ironwood Spears, you’ll need the following quantities of materials:

  • 7,241 x Tier 5 Timber: Ironwood Planks are used, crafted from Ironwood, Wyrdwood Planks, and Sandpaper. You’ll first need to craft Wyrdwood Planks from Wyrdwood, Sandpaper, and Lumber.
  • 2,785 x Metals: As usual, opt for Iron Ingot, which is crafted from Iron Ores.
  • 1,114 x Leather: Continue using Coarse Leather as it’s readily available.

On the other hand, for 557 Ironwood Fishing Poles, you’ll require these materials:

  • 8,355 x Tier 5 Timber: Use Ironwood Planks, as with the Ironwood Spear.
  • 1,671 x Leather: Coarse Leather remains the most cost-effective choice.
  • 1,114 x Cloth: Opt for Linen for the cloth material.

Once you’ve gathered all the necessary materials, proceed to a Workshop to craft the required items and achieve Engineering Level 200 in New World.

Material Gathering

This section of our guide will briefly describe how you can easily collect some of the raw materials we mentioned in our Engineering leveling guide for New World. But keep in mind that it is a leveling guide. That’s why we will touch on every material only briefly. At the end of this section, we will share some tips to help you save or gather more materials.

Green-Wood

The Green-Wood is one of the easiest, if not the easiest, materials to gather in the New World. You can find the trees to grab Green Wood in almost every part of the map.

Saltpeter

To get a lot of Saltpeter, you can go to the Cave located northwest of Everfall. It is one of the best places in the New World to gather Saltpeter from.

Flint

Just like the Green-Wood, flint is one of the easiest materials to get in the New World. Flint is located in all the parts on the map, but the best route to get it is when you go and come back from the Saltpeter Cave in Everfall.

Wyrdwood

After the new patch 1.1.1 for the New World, gathering Wyrdwood has been extremely difficult. Before the patch, you could easily get those from Elemental Wolves, but not anymore. Still, you can collect Wyrdwood in high quantities in Brightwood and Edengrove.

Ironwood

Lastly, Ironwood is easy to farm in high-profile areas. The two best places are Shattered Mountain and the Northern areas of Edengrove to the farm for the needed amount of Ironwood.

Final Verdict

Reaching higher Engineering Levels in New World can undoubtedly be challenging, but it’s not impossible.
