Adding The Worst Call Of Duty On Game Pass Isn’t Exactly A Good Ice Breaker

If there’s a universal fact, it’s that the Earth is round, or a Call of Duty will sell like hotcakes no matter what. Forget the debate of content quality or gameplay, a Call of Duty will always be desired, and that’s not changing anytime soon. There’s a reason why Sony and Microsoft fought over Activision Blizzard.

Reigning triumphant, Microsoft didn’t waste time as it brought its newly acquired golden goose to the Game Pass service. Think the Game Pass is a killer deal? Wait till you get to play Black Ops 6 on it. Oh, and that’s not all. Now, Modern Warfare 3 will be available soon, too. Microsoft’s being awfully generous, right? I wonder what will be the “price” of this.

Modern Warfare 3 Arrives On Game Pass After The Price Hike

Microsoft’s recent actions hinted towards the company going all in on the Game Pass model as its major business strategy. From bringing its major games Day One to the service and simultaneously going the multi-platform route, it was clear Microsoft was focused more on the Game Pass than the Xbox as a platform.

This was further proved when Black Ops 6 was introduced. When this happened, I called this move the ultimate test, and that some changes are coming for better or worse. And it seems I was right indeed. Microsoft’s staking everything on Game Pass, and to capitalize on the “Call of Duty effect” even more, here comes a significant price hike.

However, Microsoft knows better than to issue a price increase without providing anything enticing to sweeten the deal. Black Ops 6 was the first chip, and now the second Microsoft’s about to provide Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as the second round of goodies.

MW3 Is The Wrong Call Of Duty To Add

That’s all well and good, Microsoft, but there’s just a teeny tiny problem. Putting the worst Call of Duty on Game Pass is not exactly going to make me say “I must get it immediately.” To be frank, I’ll cancel my subscription just to stay a thousand feet away from Modern Warfare 3. Now you wouldn’t want that, would you?

I would call Modern Warfare 3 a proper Call of Duty, but I just can’t bring myself to lie, not for MW3. This is nothing more than an expansion scaled up to trick you into buying it for the full price. It even started as a DLC for Modern Warfare 2 which became “Why sell it for 30-40 bucks when people will buy it for twice that?”

If only it was a good DLC, I wouldn’t be complaining so much. The game is just a barebones, hollow attempt at a Call of Duty already way worse than its glory days. While I have my qualms with the newer Call of Duty games, Modern Warfare 3 makes all those look splendid in comparison.

Just go and give the campaign a try, so that you can share in my hate for the game. Call of Duty campaigns used to be legendary, not the same few Warzone-esque sandbox levels reused to hell in a mere 4-hour experience, making a mockery of what the series once stood for.

Now tell me, will adding the worst-rated Call of Duty game on Game Pass somehow make it a must-buy? I don’t think so.

The Right Choice Lies In The Past Games

However, just because Modern Warfare 3 is the worst one, doesn’t mean the Call of Duty name as a whole is. I’ve said it before, there’s nothing more impactful and popular than it, and for good reasons. Using Call of Duty to bolster Game Pass is the perfect decision, just not MW3.

Microsoft wants to add CoD on Game Pass? By all means, go ahead, I’d want nothing better. Just make it the classic games of the franchise. Stuff like the original Black Ops and Modern Warfare series are some of my favorite FPS games of all time. Seeing them return and available on Game Pass would be the best surprise ever.

Playing through the trauma-filled Modern Warfare saga, and finding the meaning of those numbers as Mason is probably some of gaming’s most iconic moments. People would give anything to revisit those.

Besides, as conflicted as I am about the modern Call of Duty games, adding them to the service would prove even more fruitful than the past classics, considering how they’re the more popular ones now. Adding stuff like Warzone or Modern Warfare 2 will take Game Pass’ appeal to new heights.

Anything other than Modern Warfare 3, I’ll take it with open arms. Call of Duty is indeed magical and can make the Game Pass numbers go nuts, but Microsoft won’t accomplish that with Modern Warfare 3. Black Ops 6 is a solid card, but backing it up with some extra firepower will go a long way. I hope the day isn’t far when the iconic Call of Duty classics come to Game Pass.
