Story Highlights
- Indiana Jones and The Great Circle is an ambitious new upcoming release by the makers of Wolfenstein.
- According to its creative director, the game will include more cutscenes than a feature-length movie.
- This is also MachineGames’ biggest game to date, and the longest as well that the studio has ever made.
Indiana Jones and The Great Circle is a high-profile release that’s now nearing its release date as well. Ahead of its official launch, however, creative director Axel Torvenius and design director Jens Andersson appeared in a recent rapid-fire video session with MinnMax, spilling the beans on certain details pertaining to the upcoming action-adventure.
When asked about cutscenes in specific, one of the devs replied,
It’s roughly 3 hours and 40-45 minutes or something along those lines. It’s a lot.”
MachineGames’ track record revolves around the Wolfenstein IP, three Quake titles — one of which is fairly recent — and an extra playable chapter for the classic Doom 2.
By far this is the biggest and longest game that MachinesGames has ever done.”
Another game that comes to mind when you talk about overly lengthy cutscenes is Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding. That one’s cumulative cutscene length hits the 7-hour mark, I believe.

The first-person camera perspective is one thing that has been turning many people off about Indiana Jones and The Great Circle. I personally think it could add a new level of immersion to the whole experience; so does the director of the studio. It’s also been observed that the title will feature dynamic gameplay sequences that switch between first- and third-person on the fly.
First-person gameplay is part of MachineGames’ DNA, and we wanted to see how we could use this to create a really immersive experience around stepping into the shoes of the world’s most famous archaeologist. It also separates our game from many other action-adventure titles, making it a unique experience that you cannot find anywhere else,” said Jerk Gustafsson, MachineGames’ game director.
Indiana Jones and The Great Circle makes landfall for Xbox Series X|S and PC on December 9, 2024. It’ll also come out next year for the PlayStation 5.
