THQ Nordic Shuts Down Gothic 3 Remake Rumors Amidst Fan Speculation

THQ Nordic has poured cold water on growing speculation that Gothic 3 is receiving a full remake. Although the publisher’s latest announcement gives console players a new way to experience the divisive RPG, it does not reveal the remake some fans thought was being teased.

The confusion followed news that the complete original Gothic trilogy is heading to modern PlayStation and Xbox consoles. However, THQ Nordic consistently describes these releases as the classic games—not ground-up reimaginings.

The Original Gothic Trilogy Is Coming To Consoles

In its official announcement, THQ Nordic confirmed that Gothic, Gothic 2, and Gothic 3 are coming to PlayStation and Xbox Series X|S.

That distinction matters. These are console releases of the original RPG trilogy, whereas Gothic 1 Remake is a separately developed title with rebuilt visuals, combat, and other modern changes.

Gothic 3 being included naturally gave fans something to talk about. The 2006 RPG remains notorious for its troubled launch, technical shortcomings, and ambitious open world. It has also benefited considerably from years of community fixes, leaving plenty of players interested in a more polished return.

Still, this announcement is not that return. There is currently no confirmed Gothic 3 remake.

Gothic 3 Remake Speculation Got Ahead Of The Facts

The speculation is understandable, especially with THQ Nordic already reviving the first game. If Gothic 1 Remake performs well, continuing through the trilogy would seem like a logical move. But “logical” does not mean confirmed.

For now, the publisher is focused on preserving and expanding access to the classics. That approach has value of its own, particularly for console players who never experienced Gothic’s uncompromising progression, faction system, and remarkably reactive world.

Older RPGs can find a much larger audience through modern re-releases. Just look at why Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning remains an underrated RPG gem despite its age. Accessibility often matters as much as a visual overhaul.

A Remake Could Still Happen Eventually

THQ Nordic’s clarification shuts down the current rumor, but it does not make a future Gothic 3 remake impossible. The publisher owns a series with a dedicated audience, and its willingness to revisit older properties is already well established.

Naturally, fans should keep expectations under control. Long-running franchises can spend years waiting for proper conclusions or follow-ups—as the ongoing question surrounding a Darksiders finale demonstrates.
