Games With The Best NG+ Modes You’re Missing Out On

Round 2 is crazy in these titles.

Story Highlights

  • NG+ in compatible video games offers an exciting way to replay the title with better advantages.
  • Some games tend to handle NG+ better than others and up the ante for the quality of gameplay.
  • Dead Space, God of War Ragnarok, and Elden Ring are some of the best games fitting the bill here.

You know the thing about the New Game Plus, otherwise commonly referred to as NG+, that I love the most? It can often change the face of the entire game you’re playing completely, making things go from zero to a hundred in an instant, and that too marvelously. With that being said though, only a handful of games out there have NG+ so well-designed, it’s worth replaying the mainline campaign again.

So I decided to dedicate this piece to games like these where you have to try the NG+ mode as part of the entire experience, where this particular feature is given proper depth and not treated like an afterthought. Make sure to read until the end for the best results.

A Sucker For Replayability? These Games Have You Covered

Make sure to post a comment down below in case you’ve got an experience to share of your own as well, playing through another high-quality NG+ game.

1. Dead Space

What Dead Space brings to the table isn’t just exceptional survival horror gameplay with awesome brutal combat gameplay sprinkled on top, but it knows how to mix up the fun right again with its NG+ mode. Talk about offering that insanely overpowered feeling that lets you wreak sheer carnage throughout the mainline campaign.

Furthermore, the added functionality brings certain dialogue changes in an attempt to keep the playthrough fresh. eXputer wrote a review on the title, rating it 4.5/5.0, with author Huzaifah Durrani remarking,

Motive Studio has done an impeccable job at developing this remake of a beloved game. They have successfully transferred everything that people loved about the original Dead Space from 2008, and given it a fresh coat of paint.”

2. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Iconic Marvel’s Spider-Man developer Insomniac Games has worked up a wonder with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, offering exceptionally sublime gameplay, thereby leaving an impression of an actual first-party PlayStation 5 title.

Rift Apart locks a fair number of weapons behind its tantalizing NG+ mode, and that’s all the more incentive for you to power through the storyline for a second time while being super decked-out in terms of stats and abilities.

After all, you don’t make $64 million in profit without good reason.

3. Armored Core 6

I still remember the day I found out FromSoftware is the developer of the Armored Core franchise. I was flabbergasted at the sight of the news, but here we are years later now, with the latest iteration in the franchise being an absolute blast on multiple levels. The best part is, its NG+ lets you experience different parts of the story, all the while bestowing upon you expansive firepower to take care of your foes.

eXputer’s review of the mech shooter holds it in high regard, rating it 4.5/5.0, with reviewer Huzaifah remarking,

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon effectively revives a franchise many of us thought dead, and it does so with incredible spectacle at that.”

4. God Of War Ragnarok

Santa Monica’s God of War is an absolute delight to play through from start to finish, harboring one of the best combat systems I’ve ever had the pleasure to experience, and with Ragnarok, it’s only an improvement from the 2018 reboot.

Now, the thing about this game is: You can always expect more special, high-powered equipment to unlock in its NG+ mode, not to mention the added layer of difficulty that makes it seem almost like a Soulslike.

Oh, and as for one sort of a bonus, once you’re done with its NG+, I advise getting right into Valhalla, the free DLC expansion for God of War Ragnarok that Santa Monica just gave us players away. An amazing gesture from a fantastic developer. No surprises here after all.

5. Elden Ring

Last but not least, I don’t think there’s a game out there that feels as satisfying as Elden Ring to play on NG+ mode. That’s because the very bosses that hand your butt to you will go down like a lead balloon once you return to the next playthrough, all beefed up like a bat out of hell, ready to wreak havoc on all that stand before you with buffed up weapons, level stats, and, of course, your hard-earned build.

But this is FromSoftware we’re talking about, so before you start getting too comfortable, remember that every NG+ run from there on out will start scaling the level, so the difficulty will start catching up again. For your first time, though, enjoy the victory lap.
