Baldur’s Gate 3 just received one of the best patches I have seen. It introduced several new features like class reworks, cosmetic updates, and a plethora of new spells. Owing to the addition of the new spells, I have designed my Baldur’s Gate 3 Sorcerer build guide to showcase one of the best builds for the class.
- Sorcerers in Baldur’s Gate 3 are usually DPS monsters but die quickly.
- One of the best Sorcerer builds is the Wood-Elf class with a Draconic Bloodline subclass.
- You have to focus on your Charisma stats the most for this build.
- The optimal Metamagic skills you should use are Twinned Spells and Distant skills.
- Author’s Note: I have played Baldur’s Gate 3 for nearly 100 hours so you can trust the information below.
How To Build Your Sorcerer Character In BG3?
The best class you can go for for a Sorceress build is the Wood Half-Elf class. This is primarily because of the bonus Charisma scaling you get with this race. It will not have the most defensive or health-based stats; however, it will give you very high DPS.Another class that you can opt for is the Tiefling or a Gold Dwarf. Picking any of these will give you the abilities you need as a viable sorcerer. The key abilities you want for your character are Charisma, Consitution, and Dexterity. Each is important based on the order in which they were mentioned.
Regarding the background, I will look for something that will most damage us. For that, picking Intimidation, Persuasion, and Deception is the norm for this build. You can also recruit for Religion points that may work well with this build.
Which Subclass Should You Opt For Sorcerer Build
There are many subclasses you can go for when building a sorcerer. However, I will be focusing on the Draconic Bloodline build. You can opt for some other subclasses, but none of them will be nearly as helpful. Using the Draconic Bloodline will help you unlock some pretty nifty spells that instantly obliterate your foes.
The other possible alternate to the mentioned subclass is the Wild Magic Sorcerer subclass. However, this build is not for the light-hearted. It is one of the best builds in terms of fun, but it is based around Wild Magic. Wild Magic applies completely random effects when you cast spells. These effects can range from teleportation to spawning something you don’t want near you.
The Best Way For Spell Progression In Baldur’s Gate 3
The progression order is the final and most important part of my Baldur’s Gate 3 Sorcerer Build. There are certain spells and Cantrips. Leveling up will unlock more spots and give you access to higher-tier spells. The details for each level are listed as follows.Level 1 Progression
At level 1, you can only pick 4 Cantrips; as per effectiveness, I suggest opting for Dancing Lights, Chill Touch, Acid Splash, and Firebolt. As for the spells, you should go for Magic Missile and Chromatic Orb. These will give you a good balance between burst, range, and sustain in the field to emerge victorious in most battles.
Level 2 Progression
At level 2, you’ll have to focus on your Sorcery Points and Metamagic skills. To start, you can choose Twinned and Distant Metamagic from the four available options. Twinned Spell will help you against hordes of enemies, while Distant will increase the range of some of your spells, allowing you to kite opponents with ease. You can also learn new spells like Burning Hands, which will give you a lot of burst AoE damage.
Level 3 Progression
Next, at level 3, you can pick up another Metamagic spell. You can pick one from Heightened, Subtle, or Quickened Spells. Among these three, my choice for the best is Quickened, as it will significantly decrease the cooldown time of your spell casts.
Level 4 Progression
Next up, at level 4, you will get another Spell Spot and a Cantrip. For the Spell Spot, you can either go for Misty Step or Sleep to help you in battle. As for the Cantrip, Shocking Grasp is my recommendation because it stuns and damages your enemies.
Level 5 Progression
Finally, at level 5, you will gain access to a tier 3 spell spot. In my experience, going for Counterspell or Haste is the most useful. As the names suggest, Counterspell will help you easily counter your foes, while Haste helps you cast at greater speeds.
With that, the time has come to conclude my Baldur’s Gate 3 Sorcerer build guide formally. Hopefully, you found this article informative enough to help in your Sorcerer builds. If you wish to add something, please leave it in the comments below. Lastly, stay tuned for future Baldur’s Gate 3 guides.
