Getting the Bloodhound Step
While there certainly are complicated, more involved items to dig out in the game, such as the two halves of the Dectus Medallion, finding the Bloodhound Location Step isn’t half as difficult. All you have to do is make your way to the Dragonbarrow region, which is in Caelid, and defeat the Night’s Cavalry boss.
Doing that will instantly reward you with the Ash of War in question, thereby letting you enjoy the rest of your time with the game in full flight. We’ll now go over this process in detail, including our best tips for fighting the Night’s Cavalry and locating the enemy in the first place.
Locating the Night’s Cavalry
The first part for how to get the Bloodhound Step in Elden Ring pertains to locating the Night’s Cavalry boss. This is the enemy that you have to defeat in order to obtain the Ash of War in question. So far, the Night’s Cavalry is the only source of the Bloodhound Step in the game, but we might discover more ways of getting this skill move further down the road.
First things first, let’s establish a baseline. The Night’s Cavalry is found in Caelid, which is most probably the second main region you’re going to venture to after Limgrave. A quick reminder: Limgrave is your very first accessible area in the Lands Between that you get to right after stepping out of the tutorial.
Now, the question stands, wherein Caelid is the Night’s Cavalry? This is a serious question, considering the immensity of the area at hand. You’ll find the formidable horse-riding trooper in northeast Caelid, particularly near the Lenne’s Rise Site of Grace. Getting to this part of Caelid does require a fair bit of exploration on your end. We highly encourage gathering the pertinent map fragments here for an interrupted and through-and-through experience.
You’ll find Lenne’s Rise in the vicinity of a large bridge that goes right up to the Bestial Sanctum. The good news is that the Bestial Sanctum can be accessed quickly if you’re eager enough to traverse Limgrave and all its secrets. There’s a special Waygate northeast of the Third Church of Marika Site of Grace in Limgrave that you’ll find hidden along the river and some bushes.
Teleporting through this Waygate takes the player straight to Bestial Sanctum, which, as iterated earlier, is northwest of Lenne’s Rise South of Grace and just north of the great bridge. If you choose to go that route, you’ll need to come south from the aforementioned bridge and head east to find the Night Cavalry. Do us a favor and take a look at the following layout of this whole area for a much clearer understanding of all the important map markers.

As you can now comprehend, the Night’s Cavalry is located just north of Lenne’s Rise near another small-sized bridge. However, you can’t just rush to the area and hope for the enemy to be there. There’s one more step that you’ll have to go through for making the Night’s Cavalry spawn at the designated point.
It seems that our beloved knight happens to appear only during nighttime. If you arrive at the area and it’s not currently night, make haste to the nearby Lenne’s Rise Site of Grace to pass the time until nightfall. When it’s the right time, head to the bridge, and you’ll find the Night’s Cavalry sitting strong on top of his equine, waiting to free you from your mortal coil.
Now that you’ve located the Bloodhound Step-dropping boss, it’s time to battle him. Let’s go over the proceeds of that in the following section.
Killing Off the Night’s Cavalry
Truth be told, the Night’s Cavalry is probably one of the easier bosses to deal with in Elden Ring. This is especially correct when you’re at a fairly higher level in the game and not facing him as soon as you begin your journey as a lowly Tarnished. There are a bunch of attack moves that you have to be wary of for killing off the Night’s Cavalry. One of his main combat skills is a repetition of hurling strikes from horseback when he charges toward you.
When that happens, simply roll out of his way until you find an opening. That is when he’s just about to turn away after executing one swing of his Strength weapon. You can easily get a hit in at that time and flee from the spot to wait for him to come back. Another staggering attack of the Night’s Cavalry that’s actually much more life-threatening is when he pounces at you from a distance, swinging his weapon in the wake of it.
You actually have to time your dodge to avoid this attack, and this can take some practice to perfect. The gist of it is that you absolutely have to be on your feet while battling the Night’s Cavalry at all times. Every now and then, you’ll find large openings to hit him and eventually whittle down his health to zero. It’s even better when you get the knight to fall off his horse. He gets slower with his attacks and basically invites you to put him to rest.
Showing patience and evading his attacks for a certain amount of time will definitely get you there. However, with all of this being said, if you’re genuinely early on in the game and the Night’s Cavalry is simply one-shotting you every time you go up to him, time to say “cheese.” That’s because you’ll definitely be smiling by the end of what we’re about to go over.
There is a tree that goes over the bridge where you fight the Night’s Cavalry. Let’s call it “The Cheese Tree.” You can ride up to it with a couple of double jumps and spot the enemy strolling along the bridge. What you’ll do now is simply attack him with ranged weapons, may it be spells, projectiles, or other forms of throwables.

The best part is that the Night’s Cavalry won’t even move when you’re raining death on him from The Cheese Tree. He’ll simply stay still until you deplete his health points to nothingness. Try this method on your end, and let us know how it goes.
While we’re at it, it’s worth talking about another cheese method to take down the enemy in question. You can actually use The Cheese Tree to make the Night’s Cavalry fall off the bridge. You’ll do this by going up to him first, thereby triggering the fight and having him follow you. Once you’ve done that, lead him up to the tree and jump off it toward the bridge at its very end. Wait for the Night’s Cavalry to come back to you, and he’ll eventually fall down and free you from the torment.

That’s about it for killing off this foe and how to get the Bloodhound Step in Elden Ring. Don’t be afraid to pull out the monkey business in this FromSoftware title. You know you need it for dire times.
Conclusion
Elden Ring has had one smash-hit of a launch, selling more than 12 million units within the span of one month of its release.
