Last Epoch LE-61 Failed To Matchmake Error [Tested Methods]

Last Epoch has amassed a fair share of regular players with its consistent updates and improvements despite the not-so-amazing release. However, to this day, Last Epoch is plagued by quite a few annoying bugs, including the dreaded Failed To Matchmake LE-61 error. It is generally caused by server overloading or network issues.

This error has caused a lot of frustration for players online, as it prevents you from zoning into the Keeper’s Camp. However, keep reading; I have a few effective methods to get you back on track.

Check Server Status

Trying to matchmake will inevitably fail if the servers are unstable or down. So, firstly, check the Server Status for the Last Epoch. You can find out if the servers are down for maintenance or experiencing unplanned outages by staying updated with the Last Epoch Twitter handle, which posts frequent and quick updates about problems.

Flush Your DNS Cache

Network problems like the LE-61 Failed to Matchmake Error in the Last Epoch can be efficiently resolved by flushing your DNS cache. DNS cache stores data about domain names and the IP addresses that go with them. If this data is out-of-date or corrupted, it can cause issues with connectivity.

So, I suggest resetting this data by flushing the DNS cache and making your system re-fetch new information. By resolving network-related obstacles, this procedure can guarantee that the game client can effectively communicate with the servers and prevent matchmaking failures.

Log Off The Game For A Few Hours

Server Congestion can be another reason for the Failed To Matchmake LE-61 Error in the Last Epoch. For this, I suggest putting the game down for a few hours and returning later, a popular solution in the community. This can happen when there is a lot of player traffic which might cause problems with connectivity and matchmaking.

So, instead of adding to the traffic and contributing to the congestion, lay off the online for a while. Doing this will lower the server load, improving the chances of successful matchmaking. 

Check Game Files Integrity

Another reason for this error is corrupted or missing game files, as issues will be commonplace if the game doesn’t have access to its required files. So, I recommend checking the integrity of the files for the Last Epoch. Luckily, game clients like Steam provide an in-built tool for the task.

This procedure aids in returning the game to its original configuration, enabling matchmaking to proceed without encountering issues related to missing or corrupted files. 

Whitelist The Game In Antivirus/Defender

Lastly, if missing game files turn out to be the cause for the Last Epoch Failed To Matchmake error, then it’s necessary to root out the cause as well. In most cases, the Antivirus software is likely to blame as it can falsely flag your game files, quarantining them and making them inaccessible.

A simple fix for this would be to disable the Antivirus/Defender, but this would leave your system completely vulnerable to outside attacks. So, instead, I recommend whitelisting the game in your Antivirus/Defender directory. This will mark the files as safe in the software, preventing the issue from springing up again.

My Thoughts

Matchmaking problems are common across live service games. It is an issue that is bound to pop up for several reasons. However, the Matchmake error in Last Epoch has been frequently widespread. I don’t believe this is hard to see, with players reporting the problem on the Last Epoch Forums, Reddit, and Steam.

Update: We have identified the issue and are working to remove a bottleneck that is preventing players from Matchmaking to the servers. We do not have an ETA at this moment.

However, the problem generally originates from the back end. Subsequently, the developers are quick to acknowledge and resolve the issue. While this is great, something that concerned me was that the Official Last Epoch Discord was banning players complaining about LE-61, the matchmaking error.

The exact reasoning for this stance is up in the air. However, this is a terrible look for the game, as communication is the key to maintaining a live service game. But it’s hard for me to form an opinion on the matter as there haven’t been any proper responses.
