Max Level Of Leviathan Axe In God Of War Ragnarok

As mentioned earlier, the Leviathan Axe starts off at level 1. But through the upgrades, you can take the Leviathan Axe all the way to a max level of 9. That might be surprising because an initial look at the skill tree might give you the misconception that level 6 is the highest level. But with the use of side quests and the main storyline, you’ll be able to upgrade to level 9 with ease.

Stats

With each level upgrade, every single weapon or armor in the game gets an increase in its stats, and that’s no different with the Leviathan Axe. Here are all of the stats of the Leviathan Axe till its max level.

Upgrading Through Frozen Flames

The first and most obvious method on how to upgrade the Leviathan Axe in God of War Ragnarok is to use Frozen Flames, which is a special material that is used only to upgrade the axe. You can come across these flames through either the main story or certain side quests. Here’s how to find each flame.

Main Story Frozen Flames

You can easily get five Frozen Flames just through the story alone and reach level 6 to unlock the entire skill tree. Certain enemies and bosses drop the flames, so if you don’t want to be spoiled on what bosses wait ahead, you can skip this part as it’s unlikely that you’ll miss any of the Frozen Flames if you reach late game.

The Huntress – Surviving Fimbulwinter

The first Frozen Flame will be found after defeating one of the first few bosses of the game, The Huntress, during the “Surviving Fimbulwinter” quest. She can be quite tricky to beat as you’re just starting out in the game. But keep aiming for its weak spots, and you’ll eventually defeat her and acquire the flame.

Alva – Groa’s Secret

The second Frozen Flame can be found in Alfheim during the “Groa’s Secret” quest. You’ll run into Alva on your way back from the Light Temple. Her rapid movements can be hard to keep up with, but keep your guard up and use a shield break when the opportunity arises, and you’ll eventually win.

Nidhogg – The Reckoning

The next flame can be found during “The Reckoning” quest, where you’re helping out a certain companion. The Nidhogg is a gigantic boss that might initially overwhelm you with its size. But its moveset is quite simple, and if you work properly with your companion, you shouldn’t have much trouble.

Hel-Traveler – Reunion

The Hel-Traveler isn’t exactly the main boss of the quest. It’s a mini-boss that you come across while making your way through. The Hel-Traveler has a high defense with extremely hard-hitting attacks. Therefore, you must keep dodging and attacking whenever you get the chance. But once you break off its armor, you’ll be able to complete the fight in seconds.

Flame Phantom – The Summoning

The final main story-related Frozen Flame can be found after defeating the Flame Phantom in Muspelheim as part of “The Summoning” quest.

Side Quest Frozen Flames

Once you’ve got all of the Frozen Flames from the main story, you can try getting them through the side quests. Unfortunately, they’re not as easy to acquire as you might think because most of the enemies are quite difficult to defeat.

Berserker Gravestone Boss – Alfheim

If you completed or at least made it midway through the “The Word of Fate” main quest, then you would’ve gained access to the cursed king’s sword hilt. It can be used to fight against the Berserker Gravestone Bosses spread throughout the different realms.

There are two different Gravestone bosses in Alfheim; head to the one in The Barrens. It is a double boss fight against the Sisters of Illska and Svipdagr The Cold. Fight the sisters first, as they’re easier to kill, and then move on to the other boss.

However, it is recommended that you come here after you’ve got most of the other upgrades and good armor, as they can be quite challenging to beat, even with a level 5 axe.

Crimson Dread Dragon – Favour For Vanaheim

The last Frozen Flame that you can get is through defeating the Crimson Dread Dragon in the Favor For Vanaheim side quest in Vanaheim. The quest starts on its own when you enter the crater in Vanaheim and change the time to night. Just follow the marker, and it’ll lead you to the boss.

Upgrading Through Frozen Sparks

Attain level 8 by collecting all Frozen Flames and upgrading your axe. The final upgrade requires six Frozen Sparks combined to form a Frozen Flame.

Obtain Frozen Sparks by closing Hel Tears, which is automatically accessible in the main story. Two Hel Tears are part of the main quest—one at Sindri’s place and another in Hel. Locate the remaining four tears.

When closing tears, focus on defending the individual closing it, not defeating every enemy. Endure until the tear is sealed, at which point all enemies vanish.

Svartalfheim Tear

The Hel Tear in Svartalfheim is located in the Aurvangar Wetlands, as shown in the image above. You’ll need to use a boat to get to the location and then jump across the wooden structures.

Alfheim Tear

The Hel Tear in Alfheim is located in The Strönd, next to the mystical gate. Just go straight from the gate and downwards; you’ll spot it.

Vanaheim Tear

If you head to the Southern Wilds in Vanaheim, you’ll be able to find it just a few steps after the mystical gate. One of the enemies here is a traveler with armor; he can be hard to defeat, but if you just last through the time, you’ll be fine.

Midgard Tear

Midgard Hel Tear

Head towards the Well of Urd, Northwest of the Lake of Nine. Climb upwards, past the Nornir chest, and go through the gap in the wall, and you’ll find the tear.

And remember, in case you forget to pick up any of the items while defeating bosses, then worry not. Just head back to any of the dwarfs and access the chest next to them. It’ll have all of the left-over items, including the Frozen Spark and Frozen Flames.

And with that, you know all about how to upgrade the Leviathan Axe in God of War Ragnarok and all of its stats at the max level. It definitely gets quite strong after you get every single Frozen Flame and Spark out there, allowing you to defeat even the hardest of foes.
