Witcher 3 Griffin School Gear [All Rarity Types]

The Griffin School Gear in Witcher 3 is one of four. It has a Medium Armor Set that is designed for balanced fighters who want to focus on using Signs too. The Griffin School Gear has Gear set from Basic to Grandmaster level that is hidden at different locations in the game. To get the Griffin School Gear, you must find all of these diagrams in a separate Scavenger Hunt questline.

What Is Griffin School Gear

The Griffin School Gear is a full set of equipment for Geralt in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, linked to the Griffin School. It includes Armor, Trousers, Boots, Gauntlets, a Silver Sword, and a Steel Sword. You can upgrade it through five levels: Basic, Enhanced, Superior, Mastercrafted, and Grandmaster (with the Blood & Wine DLC). To get it, you must complete Scavenger Hunt quests by reading maps that lead you to design diagrams for each gear piece.

There are four Maps of Edwin Greloff, and each initiates a unique quest related to the School Gear of the Griffin. Here’s how they work:

1. 1st Map of Edwin Greloff triggers the Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear Part 1 quest. It leads you to the diagrams for the Enhanced Trousers, Boots, and Steel Sword.
2. 2nd Map of Edwin Greloff starts the Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear Part 2 quest, guiding you to the remaining Enhanced Griffin Gear diagrams: the Armor, Gauntlets, and Silver Sword.
3. 3rd Map of Edwin Greloff kicks off the Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear Part 3 quest. This quest enables you to obtain the Superior Griffin Gear. It leads you to the diagrams for the complete Superior Griffin Armor Set, including Armor, Trousers, Gauntlets, and Boots, as well as the Silver and Steel Swords.
4. 4th Map of Edwin Greloff begins the Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear Part 4 quest. In the base game, this is the final Scavenger Hunt for Griffin’s Gear. It guides you to the Mastercrafted diagrams for the Griffin Gear, including the Silver and Steel Swords, Armor, Trousers, Gauntlets, and Boots.

Notably, the list does not include the Basic Griffin School Gear. This is because the quest to acquire the diagrams for the Basic Gear becomes available as soon as you obtain any one of the other maps or diagrams.

Acquiring The Griffin Gear

You can obtain the Griffin School Gear through the “Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear” quest in Witcher 3. To start this quest, you have two options:

1. Visit a specific Amateur Armorer, such as the one in Midcopse Village in Velen.
2. Purchase Edwin Greloff’s 1st and 2nd maps from the Armorer.
3. Acquire both maps to trigger the “Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear” quest.
4. Focus on completing this quest to obtain the diagrams for all the basic Griffin School Gear items.

Basic Griffin School Gear

To acquire the Basic Griffin School Gear, follow these steps:

1. Obtain the maps for the Griffin School Gear to initiate the quest.

   

2. Equip the quest and check the objectives, which include finding all Griffin School Witcher Gear and Witcher George’s grave.

Locating the Armor Set’s Diagrams:

1. Head to Dragonslayers Grotto in Velen, found in the southern part of Crookback Bog. Use a Signpost as a guide.
2. Descend into the catacombs, eliminate Wraiths using Yrden, and break a crumbling wall on the left with Aard.
3. Progress through an area with poison gas and Wraiths, either burning the gas or running through. Break another crumbling wall with Aard to access the main Chamber.
4. Defeat Ekimmara, the boss, to obtain the diagrams for the Armor Set.

   

Finding the Steel Sword Diagram:

1. Locate the Steel Sword diagram in Hindhold Watchtower, east of the Border Post in Velen.
2. Defeat Endrega surrounding the Watchtower and navigate through the tower, defeating Harpies. Use the Crossbow or signs.
3. Find a wooden door, go inside, and loot a Skeleton for the Griffin Steel Sword diagram and Balstick’s Letter.

   

Acquiring the Silver Sword Diagram:

Crafting the Griffin School Gear:

1. Head to Lornruk Lighthouse to get the Silver Sword diagram, ensuring you’re at level 14.

   

2. Look for a secret entrance near the bridge leading into the water.
3. Dive underwater and discover a small cave beneath the island.
4. Navigate platforms to reach a wooden platform, then go outside.
5. Ascend a ladder and find the Chest containing the Basic Griffin Silver Sword diagram and Crafting Notes book.

Enhanced Griffin School Gear

To upgrade your Griffin School Gear to the Enhanced level in The Witcher 3, follow these steps:

Part 1: Boots, Trousers, and Steel Sword

1. Acquire the 1st Edwin Greloff map from the Armorer in Midscope Village in Velen to unlock Part 1 of the quest.
2. For the Enhanced Griffin Boots, head to unnamed ruins northwest of the Inn at the Crossroads. Defeat a Forktail and check the western ruins for a chest containing the Enhanced Griffin Boots diagram.

   

3. To find the Enhanced Griffin Trousers, go near the Crow’s Perch signpost. Locate the Burned Ruins near the moat and find a chest in the area with collapsed rubble, which contains the Enhanced Griffin Trousers diagram.

   

4. To get the Enhanced Griffin Steel Sword diagram, go to Midscope Village and head west to a castle ruin. Clear out the bandits inside, find a wooden staircase, and obtain the Enhanced Griffin Steel Sword diagram.

   

Part 2: Armor, Gauntlets, and Silver Sword

1. Acquire the 2nd Edwin Greloff map from the same Armorer in Midscope Village to unlock Part 2 of the quest.
2. For the Enhanced Griffin Armor, head to White Eagle Fort to the west of Oxenfurt Harbor. Behind the friendly Troll’s shack, you’ll find a chest containing the Enhanced Griffin Armor diagram.

   

3. To locate the Enhanced Griffin Gauntlets, go to Frischlow in the southwestern part of Velen. Battle wraiths and a Noonwraith in the village’s cemetery. Proceed to a cave blocked by rocks, clear the path with Aard, and retrieve the Enhanced Griffin Gauntlets diagram from a chest.

   

4. Find the Enhanced Griffin Silver Sword diagram in an unnamed cave east of the Crossroads signpost, south of the Ancient Oak in Southern Velen. Explore the cave and look for a chest near dead soldiers containing the Enhanced Griffin Silver Sword diagram.

Once you have the Enhanced Griffin Gear, consider upgrading it to the Superior Griffin School Gear for greater usefulness in Witcher 3. Note that you can’t create Superior Griffin School Gear without first obtaining the Enhanced Griffin School Gear, so complete the previous steps as mentioned.

Requirements: First, obtain the Enhanced Griffin School Gear.

Part 1: Initiating the Quest

1. Travel to Novigrad’s Hierarch Square.
2. Buy the 3rd Edwin Greloff map from an Armorer. Equip the quest “Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear Part 3.”

   

Part 2: Locating the Diagrams

Steel Sword:

• Head to An Skellig island, defeat level 24 Bandits, and find the Superior Griffin Steel Sword diagram west of the highest mountain.

  

Armor Set (Armor, Trousers, Gauntlets, and Boots):

• Return to Ard Skellig’s northeastern part near Giants’ Toes signpost. Face level 24 Bandits and find a chest with diagrams for the Superior Armor set.

  

Silver Sword:

• At the Elverum Lighthouse on Ard Skellig, explore the nearby cave, defeat monsters, and find the Superior Griffin Silver Sword diagram.

If you only have the base game, then the Mastercrafted Griffin Gear is the last upgrade that you’ll get with the School Gear. With the Mastercrafted, your School Gear will be at the highest level. But if you have the DLC Blood & Wine, then it won’t be the last upgrade that you can do to that specific Griffin School Gear.

To acquire the Mastercrafted Griffin School Gear diagrams, purchase the 4th Edwin Greloff map from Eibhear Hattori, a master-level Blacksmith in Novigrad’s Glory Lane district. This purchase initiates the ‘Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear Part 4’ quest. To obtain the Mastercrafted diagrams, you’ll need to travel to The Skellige Isles once more.

1. Purchase the 4th Edwin Greloff map from Eibhear Hattori, a master-level Blacksmith in Novigrad’s Glory Lane district. This purchase initiates the ‘Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear Part 4’ quest.

Griffin Silver Sword (Mastercrafted):

• Start at Fornhala signpost on Ard Skellig island.

  

• Head east to the abandoned fortress Kaer Dhu.
• Defeat or evade a level 20 Griffin.
• Inside the fortress, find a chest with the Mastercrafted Silver Sword diagram.

Griffin Steel Sword (Mastercrafted):

• Travel to Boxholm, near Fayrlund and Rannvaig on Ard Skellig island.

  

• Head east to the ruined watchtower.
