The Last Of Us Season 2’s Filming Gets Delayed To February

The lead actor's already-packed schedule is to blame here.

Story Highlights

  • The Last of Us franchise has been treated to a television series adaptation for HBO.
  • As per a recent highlight, the filming for its second season has been delayed by one month.
  • This delay has taken place due to the busy schedule of Pedro Pascal—the actor playing Joel.

As highlighted by Maxblizz as of late, the popular HBO television series The Last of Us, which first originated in the form of a video game by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation 3, has the shooting for its second season delayed by a margin of one month. The reason cited for this occurrence is the lead actor Pedro Pascal’s busy schedule, as the Game of Thrones star has other projects to tend to as well.

Specifically, Pedro will be joining the cast of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2, which is expected to make landfall in November 2024—coming 24 years after its blockbuster predecessor, Gladiator. Not just that, but the Last of Us actor has achieved another milestone in his career by joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Reed Richards with the forthcoming Fantastic Four movie, though the latter is only rumored at this point.

Previously, a listing on Production List confirmed that The Last of Us’ second season would start filming on January 7, 2024, but this is no longer going to be the case, taking into account the news in question. Following the sprawling success of the television series, Warner Bros. Discovery didn’t take long to green-light the next step in line for the post-apocalyptics survival horror.

As a matter of fact, the decision came just two episodes into the video game adaptation, following its release on January 15, 2023. To date, the first season has clocked more than 40 million views across the globe, with its finale hitting a record view count of 8.2 million views all by itself. Commenting on the resolution to have another go at the television series, Neil Druckmann — the co-creator — said,

I’m humbled, honored, and frankly overwhelmed that so many people have tuned in and connected with our retelling of Joel and Ellie’s journey. The collaboration with Craig Mazin, our incredible cast and crew, and HBO exceeded my already high expectations. Now we have the absolute pleasure of being able to do it again with Season 2! On behalf of everyone at Naughty Dog and PlayStation, thank you,” said Druckmann.
