Story Highlights
- Diablo 4 is the latest entry in Blizzard Entertainment’s iconic Grimdark action RPG series and one of the highest-rated games of 2023.
- According to a press release by Activision Blizzard, Diablo 4 is the fastest-selling game in series history, generating over 666 million dollars within the first 5 days of release.
- Diablo 4 was also the number-one game on Twitch between June 1-June 9.
Only 5 days after launch, Diablo 4 has crossed over 666 million dollars in total revenue, making it the fastest-selling Blizzard game in history. Activision Blizzard shared this information in a press release earlier today citing it as the box-office equivalent of the biggest opening week of the year.
Diablo IV had the best-selling opening in Blizzard’s history, crossing an auspicious $666 million in global sell-through in the first five days following its June 6 launch. The latest installment for the Diablo series, and Blizzard’s fastest-selling game ever*, is the box-office equivalent of the biggest opening week of the year.”
Activision Blizzard also shared a bunch of other tidbits concerning the game. According to the company, the game has been played for a total of over 276 million hours or over 30,000 years. Blizzard also confirmed that Diablo 4 was the #1 game on Twitch from June 1-June 9. Mike Ybarra, President of Blizzard Entertainment made this statement in response to the game’s commercial success:
Diablo IV is a result of our incredible teams working together to craft and support genre-defining games, build legendary worlds, and inspire memories that will last a lifetime. We’re humbled by the response, proud of the team, and remain committed to listening to our players and ensuring Diablo continues to exceed expectations for years to come.”
Blizzard also shared a bunch of other fun data from Diablo 4, such as:
- 276 billion demons killed since Early Access: nearly 35 times the global population.
- Players have been vanquished over 316 million times
- …over 5 million of those vanquishings were at the hands of the Butcher.
- But they’re not falling alone – players have created a party with friends over 166 million times.
- 163 players have made it to the maximum level in Hardcore mode, where deaths are permanent.
While Diablo 4 launched to near-universal critical acclaim, the game’s launch didn’t go as smoothly as players may have expected. Players were initially unable to even log into the game, while another player lost his level 100 character on Hardcore difficulty due to a server disconnect.
Even so, the game is currently Blizzard’s reigning champion, here’s hoping the game can maintain its staggering momentum over the next few years as it continues to develop.
