COD Modern Warfare Sequel Confirmed By Activision For 2022

In the latest financial report published today, Activision Blizzard confirmed a COD Modern Warfare sequel for 2022 alongside plans for COD Warzone.

UPDATE: Activision has officially announced the upcoming sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. “The new era of Call of Duty is coming,” states the announcement.

Call of Duty Vanguard was a good title, but that was all it managed to garner. The game did not innovate the COD formula, and fans were left asking for more. However, the beloved series has produced engaging titles over the years. Call of Duty has dominated the FPS sphere with its fast-paced gameplay and high-octane multiplayer action alongside hearty campaigns. Naturally, Call of Duty fans have been on the lookout for a new title lurking in the woods and they’ve long awaited a Call of Duty Modern Warfare sequel. As we reported before, Sledgehammer Games has already been brewing a Call of Duty title and it’s in the pre-production state.

In their latest financial report, Activision Blizzard cleared the questions surrounding their new premium title in the works. This news has helped satiate the itch of many fans. Activision Blizzard cited the 2022 Call of Duty Modern Warfare sequel as the “most advanced” venture in the COD series. The report included, “This year’s Call of Duty is a sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare®, the most successful Call of Duty title to date, and will be the most advanced experience in franchise history.”

Furthermore, the statement counted that “groundbreaking” additions will also be incorporated into COD Warzone later this year. The new free-to-play Warzone experience, which is built from the ground-up alongside the premium game, features groundbreaking innovations to be revealed later this year.”

The development for the game appears to be going smoothly, and Activision is confident regarding the sequel. In their latest fiscal report, Activision Blizzard noted, “The Call of Duty teams delivered substantial gameplay improvements for Vanguard and Warzone in the first quarter. Development on this year’s premium and Warzone experiences, led by Infinity Ward, is proceeding very well.”

Moreover, Infinity Ward’s Twitter account recently went dark. Companies have often transitioned to dark profile pictures before big reveals to amplify excitement amidst the community. When the brightness was turned all the way up, it revealed Ghost lurking in the shadows. So, there were already hints about the Modern Warfare sequel confirmation being close.

We may receive an official announcement from Activision soon. Perhaps the new COD Modern Warfare sequel will be the redemption that the company needs to earn back the traditional appetite of fans for Call of Duty. Nevertheless, only time will tell.
