Diablo 4’s Newly Revealed Gameplay Has Fans Calling It A Diablo 3 Remaster

The viewers are heavily criticizing the new footage.

Story Highlights

  • The newly revealed Diablo 4 gameplay footage has suffered a lot of negative reviews from viewers. Many have compared it to Diablo 3.
  • The users have deeply criticized the gameplay shown in the new footage, and many have pointed out the apparently bad UI and cartoony visuals.
  • Most commenters have decided not to pre-order the game anymore because of the mentioned downgrade by the fans.
  • Unlike the past, the new footage also did not mention anywhere that the gameplay shown in the video is not final and subject to change.

New Diablo 4 gameplay footage was recently revealed on the official Diablo YouTube channel, which featured developers trekking through the darkened dungeons and discussing the upcoming action RPG. However, the video has been met with hefty negative criticism by the community, with many viewers claiming that the recent gameplay makes Diablo 4 Diablo 4 look more like a Diablo 3 update than a novel title.

YouTube video

The 10-minute video features the host @Bluddshed and Lead Game Designer, Zaven Haroutunian, that played through a monster-infested dungeon while discussing the specifics of Diablo 4. However, the viewers have noticed that the game resembles Diablo 3 more than any of the previous footage, and many have decided not to pre-order the game at all. The comment section is full of viewers showcasing disdain for the highly awaited title.

One user said, “Strange this video makes it look more like D3 than any other videos I have seen,” and many others have expressed similar sentiments. Other users have jokingly called it a Diablo 3 update, “Looks like Diablo 3 Update is looking good. Any new footage for Diablo 4?” Another group of Diablo fans has given Blizzard a mouthful of backlash because of the apparently downgraded graphics in the new footage.

The top 4 comments of the new Diablo 4 video criticizing the latest gameplay and Blizzard.

Other comments point out that the cartoony visuals, and the in-game environment do not appear to match the iconic dark style of the Diablo franchise. Furthermore, the new footage showcases Blizzard’s upcoming RPG with full HUD, which is how the game will look for the most part.

Another worrisome aspect noticed by some viewers is the video not stating anywhere that the shown gameplay is not the final version. The previous official Diablo 4 gameplay reveals did explicitly mention that the gameplay shown is not final. “Do you know what is the worst? Each earlier d4 movie had notification “NOT FINAL VERSION” in the corner. This one does not have it,” claimed one commenter out of worry.

As per the brewing rumors, the console version may have suffered an internal downgrade, as seen in the video. However, the gameplay may be similar on all of the platforms. The Diablo 4 open beta beginning on March 17th also already has a slew of recognized issues, so the current state of the game is far from perfect. Long queue times and server errors are stated to be a usual occurrence during the early access beta weekend.

Whether the video is the culprit behind degraded visuals or Diablo 4 has suffered a downgrade remains to be answered. However, we suggest taking the criticisms with a grain of salt; it is possible that the release will look way better aesthetically and the UI may also improve. Additionally, the recent 36-minute leaked Diablo 4 beta footage can also be watched to get a general gist of how the gameplay has turned out in the past.

Diablo 4’s early access beta is only open for the users who pre-ordered the title. The open beta launches on 24th March on Friday for everyone. The entry will see a global release on June 6th, 2023 on last and next-gen platforms, including PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, the Series family, and PC.
