Despite MTX Backlash, Dragon’s Dogma 2 Is A Sales Success For Capcom

Cumulative franchise sales have now exceeded 10 million units.

Story Highlights

  • Dragon’s Dogma 2 is one of the latest JRPG releases in the gaming industry, launching to great fanfare.
  • The game, despite getting panned for its sudden outpour of microtransactions, has sold well for Capcom.
  • The developer confirms that the title has rolled over 2.5 million units to date, which labels it a sales success.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is making waves across the industry for all that it brings to the table, though some may say that people are mostly buying into the hype factor here that has been accumulating over the past 12 years. In any case, the JRPG is a commercial success after all, and there’s no denying it. Capcom recently took to a press release to make the grand announcement, assuring stakeholders that the company remains “firmly committed to satisfying expectations.”

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has sold over 2.5 million units, taking the series to over 10 million units worldwide. Thank you for your support. We recently released an update for Dragon’s Dogma 2, and will continue to support the game in the future.”

Cumulative franchise sales are also at an all-time high for Dragon’s Dogma 2. A previous report by Capcom published late in December last year confirmed the first Dragon’s Dogma to have sold around 8.4 million copies, so the sequel has added nicely to that figure now. Additionally, it’s had the biggest video game launch in the UK this year, pacing just ahead of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Has Sold Well Despite Many Glaring Complaints

It’s an understatement to say that Dragon’s Dogma 2 had an easy launch. As soon as it came out, the RPG was panned for its sudden display of a whole swath of microtransactions, which, if I’m being honest, is nothing new from the side of Capcom.

However, a week into the title, and it turns out, the MTX are the least of the game’s problems. Players so far have run into abysmal performance issues, a lackluster storyline, and a clear downgrade of enemy variety as compared to its predecessor. Capcom does plan on making amends and rolling out patch after patch to ameliorate the current state of the RPG.
