Dragon’s Dogma 2 Becomes UK’s Biggest Launch This Year; Narrowly Beats FF7 Rebirth

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has risen to become the UK’s biggest launch this year, as confirmed by new sales data. The tidbit was shared by Christopher Dring—the GamesIndustry head—in a new Twitter post. The new RPG was narrowly able to surpass Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth to hog the top spot. However, it had no issues overshadowing Helldivers 2 as well. It is because that game had an average start before picking up more players over time. 

So with digital data (via GSD), Dragon's Dogma 2 is the biggest game launch of the year so far in the UK, narrowly ahead of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth.

However, it is unclear how the title would have held up against Palworld—the UK sales data for it is unavailable, unfortunately.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Stands Among The Leading GOTY Contenders This Year

The RPG published by Capcom launched to a mixed response. The existence of performance issues and the introduction of optional microtransactions rubbed gamers the wrong way, causing them to rate the game negatively on Steam. Underneath these issues lies arguably the best RPG that has been released in recent times. It became Capcom’s biggest single-player launch to date and a best-seller even before releasing on Steam.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 came out on March 22, 2024, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It launched alongside the highly anticipated PlayStation exclusive, Rise of the Ronin. eXputer reviewed the game with a 4.5 out of 5, with the author Huzaifah Durrani dubbing the RPG as a “masterpiece with rough edges.” Despite the lingering performance issues, it features an enthralling world and a fun combat system to keep you busy for days.
