Unlike PlayStation, Xbox has only a few console-exclusive game series. Of the handful of series, Forza, Halo, and Gears of War are the most well-known. One of the lesser know series Fable is also part of the Xbox-exclusive games’ limited roster. Since its first game’s release in 2004, the series has been developed by various studios.

Currently, it’s being developed by Playground Games, a studio more widely known for developing the Forza series. The studio has been developing the new Fable game for half a decade and now it appears the game is in a “playable state” as suggested by the info available on LinkedIn of one of the game’s producers.

The producer, Vijay Gil, who has been part of the developing team as “Producer I” since October 2022 is now apparently “preparing and facilitating regular game playthroughs.” It is a strong indication that the game is in the advanced stages of development.

The new Fable game was first rumored to be in development in 2018 when a few industry insiders reported that Playground Games studio is working on the game. Playground Games had been acquired by Xbox Game Studios a few months earlier in 2018.

It wasn’t until 2020 that the game was officially announced as being in development. It was further announced that the game will be a reboot of the Fable series. According to the limited information available, the game will run the same game engine as the Forza series. The game engine is widely known as ForzaTech.

Fable is an action role-playing game series mostly developed by Lionhead Studios until the studio’s closure in 2016. The series had a relatively positive reception on its first game’s release. But since then, the Fable games did not see much success except with Fable III, which received positive reviews.

The upcoming game is being dubbed a “reboot of the series.” It is possibly an attempt to rejuvenate the dying franchise. Not much has been revealed about whether the new Fable will have a new story or if will it follow the plot of the original series.

The game was in the news last year in June as well. Then rumors were afloat that the game’s development is possibly facing issues. But these rumors were quickly shot down by Jez Corden, who said “Fable’s development is going fine.”

Fable will be released for PC and Xbox Series X|S. No release date has been announced for the game as of yet.
