Part one of patch 6.5 for Final Fantasy 14 is right around the corner, bringing the third and final Alliance raid, Thaleia, to the game in addition to expanded Island Sanctuary content. The preliminary patch notes for the upcoming update deep dive into what’s to come, going over the various new content additions, currency changes, quality-of-life features, and system adjustments.
Moreover, the brand-new main scenario quests added with patch 6.5 will take players back to Norvrandt, advancing the current plot and leading to the upcoming expansion. New sidequests have also been added to Final Fantasy 14, allowing players to obtain the final mount of Endwalker to complete their collection. They must first complete the trial “The Abyssal Fracture” and collect all seven lynxes in order to unlock the quest.
Furthermore, a new NPC will be added for Custom Deliveries, providing more content for crafters and gatherers. To unlock these new deliveries, players must talk to Theopauldin at Old Sharlayan (X:13.8 Y:15.0) and undertake the quest “A Request of One’s Own.” If you’ve yet to dabble in Disciples of the Hand/Land content, you must first complete the sidequest “Go West, Craftsman,” and progress in the main scenario quest “Going Haam.”
The iconic Triple Triad mini-game in Final Fantasy 14 will also receive some additions. Following the release of the Euphrosyne alliance raid in patch 6.3, four new cards have been added. These include Halone the Fury, Nophica the Matron, Nymeia the Spinner, and Althyk the Keeper. Additionally, new Triple Triad NPC opponents have been added to the game.

Island Sanctuary will also see some adjustments once patch 6.5 drops for Final Fantasy 14. The felicitous furball will now offer specific tasks in which players will be required to ship handicrafts. In addition to that, New visions, gathering points, gathering materials, and structures, along with a brand new gathering area have been added to the mode. The maximum sanctuary rank has also been raised from 16 to 20.
Continuing their efforts to improve the Hrothgar and Viera races, Final Fantasy 14 devs have allowed even more hairstyles to be used with characters of these races. Despite these efforts, it’s yet to be seen whether helmet functionality will be made available in the future.
Khloe’s Wondrous Tails are also being adjusted with patch 6.5. Players will no longer be able to accept a new journal until they have accepted rewards from their previously completed one. Furthermore, if players have not unlocked certain duties, the available journal objectives will change. Prizes available in exchange for Gold, Silver, and Bronze certificates have been tweaked as well.
Tomestones rewards and old alliance raids in FF14 have always had a tough relationship. With this update, devs are making adjustments to the quantity of these rewards. Based on an alliance raid’s difficulty, players will now receive a relative amount of Poetics, Causality, and Comedy Tomestones. Experience points from alliance bosses and bonuses from the Duty Roulette have also been increased.
Lastly, restrictions based on class or job level at the time of duty registration will now be applied for the Alliance Raid duty roulette. The application of this restriction brings an age-old exploit to a halt.
Final Fantasy 14 is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, and Steam. It’s set to arrive on the Xbox Series X|S in 2024.
