Genshin Impact Has Won Players Voice Award After Much Controversy

The action RPG won after The Game Awards deleted all votes from bots.

Fan-voted awards always create a mess when huge fan bases take part in the voting, no matter what form of media it is. We see a similar phenomenon in gaming where players take some illegal measures to make their favorite title win. That is exactly what happened in the voting battle between Sonic Frontiers and Genshin Impact fans for the Players Voice award at this year’s Game Awards.

Now that the results are in, we know Genshin Impact is the official winner of the Players Voice award. However, it was mighty close between the two games as both sets of fans tried their best with voting. And you won’t be surprised to know that bots were also involved in this process to give teams the edge.

Major Takeaways

  • Genshin Impact has edged out Sonic Frontiers to win the Players Voice award at The Game Awards.
  • The final results removed all of the votes from bots.
  • Genshin were favorites as the game had 53% of the votes on the poll one day before closing.

In this day and age of technology, it’s not hard for anyone to get their hands on bots. Almost everyone uses this tool in online voting, followers, and much more. Hence, huge fan bases of games like Genshin Impact and Sonic Frontiers were always getting their hands dirty to win this award.

Both of these games were the heavy favorites in this category due to the voting numbers on the website. Genshin Impact and Sonic Frontiers had 53% and 33% of votes respectively a day before the polls closed. These two were beating other games in the category by a landslide at that time.

The Game Awards poll

Elden Ring was at No.3 with just 8% of the votes and God of War Ragnarok only had 5% of people vote for it. Stray came out last with merely 1% of the voters choosing it as their winner for the Players Voice award. Hence, one of Sonic Frontiers and Genshin Impact were always winning, with the latter looking the favorite.

But, the final results of the vote took the number of bots used to vote into account and removed them. As a result, no one was sure who was actually going to win as both sides most probably used them. Now we know that even with artificial interference, Genshin Impact had enough votes for the game to take home this award.

However, the fight Sonic fans put up also deserves some appreciation in face of Genshin’s fan base. The latter is one of the biggest online games around with a massive active fan base that makes miHoYo billions. Sonic obviously has a wide player base too due to its rich history.

But, Genshin Impact is a recent game so it’s no mystery why their fans had more organization. As you can see above, even the Genshin fans were taken aback by how Sonic did in the polls. Hence, the deserving game probably won the award but it’s safe to say Sonic won our hearts.
