Story Highlights
- God of War Ragnarok is one of the most popular PlayStation exclusives out there.
- The game has just received its first-ever expansion in the name of Valhalla, a new roguelite adventure.
- The Game Director of the DLC just confirmed that it will have unique unlockable trophies.
Well, this came forth as a pleasant surprise. One of the major announcements at this year’s The Game Awards was all about God of War Ragnarok’s first-ever expansion, Valhalla, released today not even a week after its reveal. Now as per Santa Monica Studio, the DLC will feature unique trophies to unlock for both PlayStation 4 and 5 players, albeit these won’t affect your progression for the Platinum trophy.
Yes. They are separate from #GodOfWarRagnarok base game however so they will not affect your platinum there.

When asked whether God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla will have new trophies, the Game Director of the DLC and the Combat Lead of the base game confirmed that unique trophies will be available and that these will be separate from the main game. I believe this is what’s going to keep players hooked to Valhalla for a long time, not just because of its roguelite nature, but due to this new trophy hunt as well that everyone will be setting out on.
That said, it’s unclear what some of the new trophies will be based on, whether difficulty, narrative, or something else entirely. One thing’s clear though already: God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla will feature story elements, and is supposed to be “an epilogue to the events of God of War Ragnarök.” Quick reminder, but spoiler alert as well, Kratos is crowned the Champion of the people at the end of Ragnarok’s story, which is, evidently, too overwhelming for him to embrace to the full.
There is story! GoWR:V serves as an epilogue to the events of God of War Ragnarök.

On a side note, you should check out the God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla release trailer if you haven’t already. It’s a real piece of work that showcases some of the major facets of the expansion, including revisited combat, a new personal journey for Kratos which perfectly aligns with the story aspect I mentioned earlier, and the idea of exploring Valhalla. Too exciting, I tell you.
God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla unlocks for players today on December 12, 2023, as free-to-play DLC. The base game traces its release to November 9, 2022, and serves as the sequel to the 2018-released God of War, which itself was a reboot of the long-running God of War franchise. eXputer rated Ragnarok 4.5/5 in its review, highlighting its dynamic combat, stellar visuals, and fantastic soundtrack.
