Did Atreus Just Subtly Hint At The Next God Of War Game In The Works?

I mean, it's not really a surprise at this point.

Story Highlights

  • God of War Ragnarok is one of the most well-received PlayStation IPs out in the business.
  • The voice actor of Atreus Sunny Suljic from the game appeared in an interview in recent times.
  • Sunny gave a questionable reaction when asked whether another God of War was under the works.

Appearing in a podcast with internet celebrity Matan Even, Sunny Suljic, the voice actor of Atreus, may just have teased that a new God of War game is secretly under the works. Take this with a grain of salt since we’re not going on a lot here, but you’ve got to admit that Loki’s reaction to the burning question asked by Matan is a tad bit suspicious. For reference, skip to 2:48 in the following video.

When asked if Santa Monica is working on anything relevant to the God of War franchise right now, Sunny replied with a cool “no,” laughing it off and trying to dismiss the question, but it’s easy to notice that there is a lot more to Atreus’ answer than that, considering the hesitation involved with regard to his answer. Of course, this could all mean nothing, and the devs might haven’t begun their next God of War project at the moment, but hey, you never know, right?

God of War Ragnarok is the culmination of the franchise’s Norse saga, and in what incredible fashion. The game’s brilliant ending has kept everyone on the edge, with the fans hoping for a new game in the franchise to drop soon enough. As wishful as that is, we’ve still got years unfortunately before any pertinent official news can even begin to pop up regarding the next God of War.

It bears noticing here that Cory Barlog, the Game Director of the first game and Santa Monica Studio’s frontman, has already stated that the Norse mythology has come to a close for Kratos. This is simply because the developers didn’t want to spend 15 years working on the trilogy, so they thought it fit to conclude the Norse saga with two games.

That’s why fans have gathered around, trying to speculate where Kratos and co. are about to head next. The most fan-favorite guess at this point is Egypt, but one can never exactly put their finger on what direction Santa Monica is about to take with the franchise next. The fourth mainline game pulled off what no one anticipated; there’s no reason to assume the same strategy won’t be attempted again.

In other news, Ragnarok’s first-ever expansion Valhalla just released, and basically came out of nowhere for absolutely free. Players love it and can’t praise Santa Monica enough for this Christmas gift. Our review of the DLC holds it in high regard as well, rating it 5/5 with writer Usama Mehmood remarking, “On top of it being a free update, God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla is a love letter to all the old fans of this incredible series.”
