Helldivers 2 CEO Asks New Players To Be Kind And “Do Your Part”

Helldivers 2 is one of the biggest surprise hits of 2024 because no one really saw it coming how fun this game has turned out to be. Heck, I have to continually put down Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in favor of what Arrowhead Game Studios has worked up in recent times, and unregretfully so. But if you’re a new player or someone who’s about to purchase Helldivers 2, Arrowhead’s CEO has some precious words for you. 

Come in with an open mind, be kind and do your part. This is a fun community where everyone is on the same side. We’d love to have you spread some democracy with us. You never know what’s going to happen,” says Johan Pilestedt in an interview with PS Blog.

For those not in the know, Helldivers 2 is a live service shooter with a $40 price tag, available only on the PlayStation 5 and PC at the moment. The game draws clear inspiration from Starship Troopers — the satirical science fiction movie franchise — and pits humans against bugs and mechanized robots in all-out warfare. It’s incredibly amusing and a must-try, to say the least.  

Helldivers 2 Is Unapologetically Fun With A No Holds Barred Approach

One of the most unique aspects about this game is it always has friendly fire turned on, which means that your bullets don’t only harm your foes, but your allies all the same. Elaborating on the matter, Johan has a genuinely sane explanation for this mechanic and the studio’s decision to keep it that way for the time to come, saying, 

The most important thing when we make games is believability. Things should be consistent in the game world and therefore, we must have friendly fire. If your bullets can kill enemies, and the enemies can kill you, then logic dictates that your bullets must also be able to kill your friends. This kind of design is inherently systematic, where we create a rule set that applies to everything in the game world, with minor exceptions.” 

Helldivers 2 was released on February 2, 2024, with eXputer rating it 4.5/5.0 in its review and calling it the “best multiplayer game of 2024.” On a side note, it would be in the best interest of new players to learn about the best Helldivers 2 settings for max FPS and performance.
