Helldivers 2 has gathered fair anticipation for its name over the course of its initial reveal, which dates back to last year’s PlayStation Showcase, where a number of other awesome games were made to come out in the open as well. The third-person shooter by Arrowhead Games is coming up soon in February, and ahead of its launch, PlayStation has made a new blog post, detailing some of its stand-out features.
Helldivers 2 is bursting with customization options and strategic depth, but shooting lots of enemies is your bread and butter. Arrowhead managed to translate the frenetic top-down energy of Helldivers into a smooth third-person shooter. Weapon recoil feels powerful yet predictable enough to maintain your accuracy. I specifically loved watching Automaton’s armor dent and shatter off as I punched them full of sniper rounds,” says PlayStation representative Tim Turi.
Some of the gameplay mechanics that you should specifically watch out for while blazing through hordes of enemies in the game revolve around Strategems, which are buffed-up special powers that boast incredible strength for wiping out your foes, Ship Management, and the various gameplay modes that the developer has laid out for aspiring Helldivers.
For starters, there’s the Horde mode that pits players against waves of relentless adversaries while you take charge of a specific area tasked the Helldivers to protect. You will need to be strategic here to come out on top—those bugs and God knows what else isn’t going down easily, that’s for certain. Another way to play Helldivers 2 is via Automaton Control, which focuses on expunging robots in-game.
Lastly, and this is something that I talked about earlier as well because Arrowhead released a dedicated trailer for it, the Galatic War functionality will bring players from all corners of the world under one umbrella, allowing everyone to look at the bigger picture and zero in on planets that need your saving and those that don’t. There is a rewards system in place as well for active participants, making the whole endeavor very well worth it.

On a side note, it bears mentioning that Helldivers 2’s file size sports a stark difference between its PS5 and PC counterparts. On the latter, it’s a whopping 100 GB, more or less, but the game will only be taking up somewhere around 25 GB for PlayStation 5 users. Not sure what’s the discrepancy here, but it could have a bit to do with additional textures and upscaled resolution availability on PC.
Helldivers 2 has a release date of February 8, 2024, for the PlayStation 5 and PC. It’s the sequel to the first Helldivers from 2015, which was actually a top-down shooter and not third-person.
