The game will let players pick their fights.

Story Highlights

  • As per the revealed footage, it seems players will have the ability to choose what planet to fight on.

Helldivers 2 is a fairly anticipated PlayStation 5 and PC game coming early next month, near the worldwide release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League by Rocksteady Studios. Ahead of the title’s launch, developer Arrowhead Game Studios has pushed out a new trailer for the third-person shooter, detailing its Galactic War feature that players will be able to get into right off the bat.

The trailer practically showcases the primary gameplay elements of Helldivers 2 that players can expect from the title going forward. First off, there’s a tutorial sequence that every newbie must go through, because, you know, all that is customary for a Helldiver. Next, as soon as you take control of your senses, you get to command your ship and choose what type of worlds you’d like to visit and erase the threat there.

Once you choose a planet, the War Table will allow you to choose an operation to partake in. Operations consist of up to three missions, with a variety of primary objectives, like eradicating bug infestations, destroying enemy supplies, and retrieving valuable data,” says Katherine Baskin, Arrowhead’s Community Manager.

To expand on the latter, your aircraft will contain what the game likes to refer to as a Galatic map. This mode of navigation makes all sides of the war clear and crystal for players to understand at a glance. For starters, you’re shown the areas fully occupied by Super Earth, followed by regions that are swarming with either robotic Automatons or the bug-like Termininds.

That way, you get to easily perceive the type of enemies you’re going into battle against. As the studio representative iterates the following in the video, it’s clear that gameplay flexibility is going to be a thing in Helldivers 2, if nothing else.

Everything that’s happening outside of the mission when you’re on your ship is about the strategy. The Galactic map shows you the current situation of the war it shows you what planets are super Earth planets, what planets are being covered by some sort of enemy scum.”

Not long ago, Arrowhead unveiled the PC specs requirement of the game as well, along with an overview of some of the other features that are coming for the PC variant of Helldivers 2, including crossplay, keyboard, and mouse support, and more. The State of Play 2023 event went deep into the title’s gameplay; check that out if you’d like to go through more of its footage before plunging to the purchase.

Helldivers 2 is coming exclusively for the PlayStation 5 and PC, with no Xbox version planned as of yet, despite indications of a multi-console release. The launch date that Arrowhead has planned for the shooter is February 8, 2024.
