A Hogwarts Legacy Sequel Is One Of WB’s “Biggest Priorities,” Says Company CFO

Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of Warner Bros. Games, which has published Hogwarts Legacy, has its focus set on the successor of 2023’s top-selling new release. No wonder why. 

The Chief Financial Officer of WBD, Gunnar Wiedenfels, has spoken up at a recent Bank of America conference, talking about the importance of a Hogwarts Legacy sequel, primarily because of how widely successful it’s been for the company (thanks Variety).

Obviously, a successor to ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road. So there is certainly a significant growth contribution from that business in our strategic outlook here,” said Gunnar. 

It bears mentioning here that another one of WB Games’ projects came out in recent times, but its reception has remained nowhere near its Wizarding World sibling—Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. With refund searches spiking by a gargantuan figure soon after its release, the third-person live service shooter has been anything but expectations-meeting for the publisher.

Hogwarts Legacy, on the other hand, has rolled over more than 24 million units as of January 2024, with players clocking in more than 700 million hours cumulatively. It’s been a sure-fire whopper for developer Avalanche and publisher WB Games, so it’s really no surprise that the folks up high would want to capitalize on the potential further. 

How Soon Is A Hogwarts Legacy Sequel Coming? 

As of right now, it’s hard to say when exactly Hogwarts Legacy 2, or anything of the sort, is likely to arrive, but you shouldn’t be looking forward to it anytime soon. That said, Avalanche is already looking to hire staff for the sequel, and there have been rumblings about the game being built in Unreal Engine 5. 

Following Hogwarts Legacy’s release, WB also launched a spin-off title earlier this week called Quidditch Champions, based on the fictional game of “Quidditch” that exists in the Wizarding World. It employs the majority of the fan-favorite characters we know and love from the Harry Potter books and movies—something that Hogwarts Legacy did not live up to.
