Larian Studios Is Already Working On Its “Next Big Game”

Larian Studios, the famed developer behind the works of the Divinity Original Sin franchise, has hit home with its relatively recent Baldur’s Gate 3—a CRPG based on the Dungeons and Dragons tabletop role-playing game. Now, however, it seems that the studio is already working on its next big game, with not even 4 months passed since the release of its latest project. 

The CEO of Larian Swen Vincke has recently taken to X (formerly Twitter) to express his thoughts over Baldur’s Gate 3 receiving a number of nominations at The Game Awards 2023. In doing so, Swen has spilled the beans on what the studio seems to be cooking at the moment, confirming that the team is already working on its “next big game.” Swen couldn’t share more about the matter at the moment.

This is a real honor, especially in a year with so many releases. Seeing our little ‘niche rpg’ make such waves is very motivating. I wish I could tell you about our next big game but this is really encouraging us to ensure it pushes many boundaries. I’m very excited about it,” said Larian Studio’s CEO.

Speaking of Baldur’s Gate 3, the game has been a monumental success for Larian Studios so far, thereby inspiring the Belgium-based developer to keep honing their expertise. The fact that the title has grabbed 8 nominations all by itself is nothing short of praiseworthy, and certainly fuel for Larian to take up another project in the domain of its proficiency.

On a side note, it’s worth reiterating that sources close to eXputer have relayed a December 6 release date for Baldur’s Gate 3’s Xbox Series X|S port. For those not in the know, the CRPG was only launched for PC back in August and is currently available to play via Steam. However, those on the Xbox consoles and PlayStation 5 have to play the wait game for a while. 

Baldur’s Gate 3—released on August 3, 2023 for PC—has been incredibly successful so far, raking in sales figures even before its launch. eXputer rated the game 5/5, with Huzaifah Durrani deeming it one of the greatest RPGs of all time.
