Mega Man 11 is an action-packed, 2.5D platformer with enticing visuals and unique gameplay. The game is a fan-favorite in the series, raking in an immense player base at the time of its release and celebrating early success just a couple of months into the title’s launch.
According to a recently revealed Capcom Investor Relations earnings report, Mega Man 11 has overtaken Mega Man 2 as the best-selling game in the Mega Man series. Out of the top 100 selling games by Capcom, Mega Man 11 has managed to earn a spot on the 67th number, outselling Mega Man 2 by 90,000 copies.
The news comes as a milestone for everyone who worked on the title for years on end until it was finally released in October 2018. As of today, therefore, Capcom has revealed that Mega Man 11 has garnered a total of 1.60 million sales, even outselling Resident Evil 4—one of the best horror games in the history of gaming.
The Rundown:
- First spotted by Rockman Corner, Capcom has made it official in a recent Investor Relations earnings report that Mega Man has massed over 1.60 million units in a span of 4 years.
- Previously, the title of the best-selling game in the franchise belonged to Mega Man 2 which is now revealed to have sold 1.51 million units ever since its release in December 1998.
- Fans now have their eyes, as to the franchise’s success, on the upcoming Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection which is due to release sometime in 2023.
Mega Man is one of Capcom’s most prized IPs, tracing the series’ original release back to 1987. Fast-forward to 2022, the series has more than 50 games to its name across a bevy of different platforms. It’s not just video games that Mega Man or otherwise Rockman is known for.
The series has apparently branched out to other domains as well, such as film adaptations, television appearances, OVAs, artbooks, comics, manga, and more. The genre of the series is totally sci-fi where you’re made to maneuver a robot character titularly known as Mega Man or Rockman.
The franchise has sold more than 38 million units worldwide, which spells nothing but prolific success for Mega Man. Now as for the next entry in the franchise, Capcom is currently working on Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection. It’s a bundle that is due to release sometime in 2023.
