Palworld Dev Criticizes “Dead Game” Term, Asks Players To “Just Enjoy” And “Play The Next” Indie

The community manager at Pocketpair has always been vocal against this phrase.

Story Highlights

  • Palworld CM John Buckley has criticized the “dead game” phrase in a new interview on YouTube.
  • He says players should move on to other titles instead of sticking to a single one for a long time.
  • The dev believes only a few games are made to be played for a long time, not every one of them.

The Palworld community manager, John Buckley, has appeared in an interview on YouTube with Going Indie and criticized the “dead game” narrative touted in the industry nowadays. He says that gamers should play a game they enjoy and move on once they are done with it, even if it’s within a day. Bucky also believes there’s no reason to push gamers to play a title for a long time since it’s not healthy for anyone to engage in this ideology.

That kind of extreme view leads to companies coming up with “soulless live service games,” which get shut down within a year since they don’t make as much money as expected.

Just play the games you like. If you finish in a day, cool. Good job. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Play the next one. […] Play all the indIes you can. Spend as much money on indies as you can. Who cares if there’s only five people playing it? Just enjoy yourself. Just enjoy games. I don’t think it needs to be any more complex than that.”

Palworld Dev Believes Only Some Games Are Meant To Be Played For Longer

The RPG’s CM believes that only live-service titles and MMORPGs are designed to be enjoyed for years since they have a constant flow of content. Single-player entries, on the other hand, are usually built to last until you squeeze all the juice out of them. As a result, moving on from a game you once enjoyed is not a bad thing at all.

All in all, Bucky is against gamers’ obsession with active player counts and other similar statistics. Even if we were to follow that logic, Palworld is far from dying since it still boasts thousands of players daily, and servers usually get flooded whenever a new major update launches.
