Potential Valheim Spin-Off Gets Shot Down By Iron Gate

Valheim sequel and spin-offs wings were clipped before it could fly.

In a recent turn of events for the well-renowned survival multiplayer, Valheim’s developers are interested in making a sequel and a spin-off for the game. However, in an interview with the developers, it was revealed that one of the ideas may have been shot down before it even started to gain momentum.

In a recent chat with the senior developer Jonthan Smårs and lead artist Robin Eyre, GamesRadar asked if the fans could expect a sequel for the game. This was a question that had been on the minds of many Valheim fanatics across the globe.

MAJOR TAKEAWAYS:

  • Lead artist Robin Eyre has pitched ideas about a potential Valheim Sequel and Spin-off.
  • Iron Gate Studio has rejected making a spin-off.

Whilst answering this pressing question Robin Eyre did in fact say yes. However, he reiterated it by saying that his personal idea about the spin-off did not coincide with what Iron Gate Studio wants at the moment.

He has this to say about the spin-off,

This is not a sequel, but I want to make a Greydwarf game. It’s a pixel side-scroller where you play as Greydwarves, and it’s versus Vikings instead. And stuff you get in this greydwarf game could carry over to Valheim. Or if you go into [Valheim’s] credits, you can play the sidescroller Greydwarf game. How about that?”

This is truly exciting news, it means that whilst we will not be able to enjoy the Valheim sequel or spin-off in the near future. Iron Gate Studio is not completely against exploring the world of Valheim and seeing where it leads them.

Valheim was released on early February 2021 for Linux and Windows via Steam where it became a top-selling game for six consecutive weeks. Valheim is set to be released for Xbox One,  Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S in 2023.
