Sony Refunds The Last Of Us 2 PS4 Owners For Buying Remastered Edition At Full Price

The gesture has been appreciated by the community.

Story Highlights

  • Sony is evidently refunding The Last of Us Part 2 PS4 owners for buying the remastered edition at full price.
  • The PS4 owners can soon upgrade to the remastered version for just $10, so buying for full price is not required.
  • The Last of Us players and the wider PS community have praised Sony for the nice gesture.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is set to arrive in the next couple of weeks, and gamers have already started pre-ordering it for the full price. But, the buyers who already had the original TLOU Part 2 were supposed to wait and upgrade to the remastered edition for a mere $10 bucks. While most are planning to benefit from the offer, those not in the know have paid the $50 price tag and pre-ordered the remastered edition early with others.

As reported on Reddit by u/farrerj32 and many other users in the TLOU community, Sony has responded to the crisis by just refunding the buyers and issuing a detailed response to the community. The publisher has reportedly refunded the customers as a “gesture of goodwill” to ensure that they “do not lose out on that opportunity.” This will allow The Last of Us Part 2 players to avail the offer and save $40 bucks in the process.

PlayStation is offering refunds for users who owned the PS4 version of The Last of Us Part 2 but already preordered The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered which is 50 dollars instead of getting the 10 dollar upgrade!

The upgrade path laid out by the devs has proven to be quite confusing for some users, causing some TLOU Part 2 players in the community to be oblivious to the $10 upgrade offer. As a result, the fans have praised the amiable move by Sony to assist the buyers by refunding and removing the option for them to pre-order in certain regions. The TLOU Part 2 owners will be able to upgrade on the day the remastered edition launches.

n my UK PSN account I was blocked weeks ago from purchasing due to ownership of the PS4 version. I wonder if this is just certain regions where this was omitted, or a limited window when pre-orders opened.
The Last of Us Part 2 still stands out as one of the best-looking releases in recent times.

If you are unfamiliar, the TLOU 2 remastered edition will bring more than just a few iterative upgrades, like new levels that never made it to the original. These “Lost Levels” will also feature commentary from the devs. Some other features include No Return roguelike mode, improved visuals and performance, Guitar Free Play, and more. The devs earlier stated that the roguelike mode is not for the faint of heart and will be full of stress.

The fans are excited about the new game modes the new edition brings. However, the title has also caused controversy because some find it unnecessary. The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is set to launch on January 19, 2024, for the PlayStation 5. It is allegedly skipping a PS4 release, likely due to hardware limits. On the other hand, we can expect a PC port by Sony in the subsequent years, but the studio has stayed quiet on the matter so far.
