The Talos Principle 2 Is Croteam’s Best-Acclaimed Game In 30 Years

The puzzle-solving sim has launched to rave reviews.

Story Highlights

  • The Talos Principle is the sequel to the first game in the franchise from 2014.
  • The title has launched to exceptional reviews across the board for all that it brings to the table.
  • The publisher Devolver Digital has deemed the game Croteam’s most acclaimed in 30 years.

It’s not every day when you put out your life’s best work because that is exactly what Croteam — the famed creator behind the likes of Serious Sam — has pulled off with The Talos Principle 2. The title’s publisher Devolver Digital, which also happens to be the parent company of Croteam, has taken to X (previous Twitter) to make the grand announcement, thereby publicizing the project’s success.

Another highlight of the matter at hand is that The Talos Principle 2 has clocked more than 100,000 players collectively across all the platforms it has launched on. In addition, the puzzle-adventure game continues its stride of receiving positive critical acclaim at the moment from various gaming publications around the world. It also sits at a solid 88 Metascore on Metacritic, with generally favorable user reviews.

The story’s pretty much flowing on a similar note over at Steam, where The Talos Principle 2 has clocked “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews, getting praised for its entertaining puzzles, terrific visuals, and narrative-driven gameplay that keeps players on the edge of their seats. “Breathtakingly incredible, and a story everyone needs to learn from,” says one user review with 25.8 hours on the game.

In recent times, eXputer held an interview with Croteam, going over the development of The Talos Principle 2 and what the future holds regarding the next step in line for the creators. As per the discussion, the game will continue to receive more polish over time, as the studio currently plans on fine-tuning its latest venture to the best possible extent. However, that doesn’t mean you won’t see Croteam making headlines with another game again.

We always have lots of ideas brewing in our heads; we aren’t fond of limiting ourselves to a single genre. Our next project could indeed be another puzzle game, or it might delve into an entirely different genre. You can be sure that we still have plenty of creative ideas left, and we’re excited about the many possibilities that lie ahead,” Croteam told eXputer.

The Talos Principle 2 came out on November 2, 2023, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game serves as the direct sequel to the first The Talos Principle from 2014 but brings along a slew of novel gameplay mechanics, and features in the process. It’s played from a first-person perspective and revolves around solving puzzles.
