Gaming Industry Nears $350 Billion In Yearly Revenue, Says EA Executive

Laura Miele, the president of one of the biggest gaming firms, Electronic Arts (EA) has claimed that the gaming industry is close to reaching $350 billion in annual revenue. Miele sat in an interview with Bloomberg where she discussed her views on the gaming industry’s growth trajectory. The EA executive also touched on the Activision deal briefly and further delved into the significant potential of gaming to captivate its audience.

First spotted by TweakTown, the EA president presented the most up-to-date figures to Bloomberg reporters, emphasizing the industry’s growth surpassing various other entertainment mediums.

There’s 3.5 billion gamers in the world so they are certainly noticing what we’re creating, and it’s close to a $350 billion dollar industry, so it’s significant. It certainly outsizes some of the media, movie and TV content for sure.”

Just so you know, these latest stats are several times higher than what experts had predicted for the running year. In a 2022 report, the gaming industry revenue was expected to go up to 257 billion in 2023 and reach about 321 billion by 2026. 

Moving forward, Miele went on to describe the impact of gaming on society and culture. She explained how people connect as they play, create, and watch others gaming emphasizing the opportunity for “creative self-expression” with games. The EA exec did not forget to mention the role of Gen Z and Gen Alpha in expanding the industry asserting as the “#1 entertainment medium” for them.

Finally, upon being asked to share her perspective on Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision, Miele referred to it as an “amazing deal” providing additional insights into its significance within the gaming industry.

But what is what an amazing deal, right? I mean, I believe positive about it. This will look to be the largest technology acquisition in U.S. history. It’s about a gaming company and so I just think it punctuates the significance of gaming and the role that we play in media and entertainment and technology.”

Lastly, the EA exec expressed optimism about forming partnerships with other companies and said that Electronic Arts is fully focused on creating a robust long-term growth strategy and ensuring its successful implementation.
