Gaming AI engineer job posting

The Xbox Gaming AI team is seeking a Principal Software Engineer with experience in gaming and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to collaborate with and empower Xbox games, engines and platform teams to explore and create innovative new Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) based features, tools and services.”

AI is very hot right now, especially in gaming. Companies are rushing to implement artificial intelligence across almost every industry. Microsoft is among the global leaders in artificial intelligence, especially with its investments in OpenAI.

Of course, gaming is no stranger to artificial intelligence. Games have implemented artificial intelligence since the 1970s. But today there seems to be a gold rush for AI, as models have become much more complex, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT 4.0 or Midjourney v5.0.

But what new AI features could Xbox be implementing? Last year, Microsoft patented a system that would use AI to generate video game soundtracks. They also filed a patent for a system that could track a player’s emotions. In games, some studios have experimented with using generative AI to generate NPC dialogue that can react to player actions.

Microsoft surely has various AI systems implemented in Xbox already, but judging from the job posting, they may be looking to take things further. Microsoft certainly has the resources to make Xbox a console powered by artificial intelligence.
