Wii U And Nintendo 3DS eShop Shutting Down Purchases In March 2023

The Wii U & Nintendo 3DS eShop have been in the hot waters for quite a while now. As Nintendo announced earlier today, the decade-old handheld consoles’ eShops will ultimately close off purchases. However, now we have the official words on the exact dates when the Wii U & Nintendo 3DS eShop will shut down purchases.

Updates on the discontinuation of #eShop for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS family systems:

– As of 8/29/2022, it will no longer be possible to add funds.
– As of 3/27/2023, purchases will no longer be available.

On the official Twitter handle, Nintendo announced that as of March 27th, 2023, players will no longer be able to make any purchases on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS eShop. Furthermore, starting August 29th, 2022, players won’t be able to add funds to the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS eShop either.

One good news is that Nintendo won’t completely shut down the storefronts. Nintendo, in its follow-up tweet, has confirmed that the players will still be able to download their pre-owned game, DLCs, and receive updates for the foreseeable future. This means that the company stands by its decision and will allow players to download the owned games and DLCs and keep them updated.

Even after 3/27/2023 and for the foreseeable future, it will still be possible to redownload games and DLC, receive software updates and enjoy online play on Wii U consoles and Nintendo 3DS systems.

As mentioned, the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS eShop have been in the hot waters, and even recently, both the storefronts were mysteriously shut down for over three days straight. Back then, the irresponsibility of the company made players extremely upset.

The recent tweet from the company hasn’t changed anything and just made the players even more upset. The replies under the tweets are mostly complaining about the decision. The opinions, on the hand, are a mixed bag; some people support the decision by the company, saying it was necessary as the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS eShop was starting to get older. At the same time, others argue that they had many memories, and the storefronts were still going strong.
