The news comes from a recent earnings call where the publisher cited both games’ strong critical and fan reception as well as their successful commercial performance. Embracer claims that Goat Simulator 3 was their primary revenue driver for the quarter followed by Evil West.
Their back catalog was no slouch either with numerous well-performing titles. The top-10 back catalog includes:
- Deep Rock Galactic
- Hot Wheels Unleashed
- Welcome to Bloxburg
- Insurgency: Sandstorm
- SnowRunner
- Star Trek Online
- Neverwinter Online
- Metro Exodus
- Chivalry 2
- Borderlands 3
Furthermore, Deep Rock Galactic performed even better thanks to the launch of its Season 3 update, bringing both new and old players back into the game, which is a good thing because Deep Rock Galactic is one of the best co-op shooters of all time.
What’s particularly interesting to note is that three of Embracer’s most highly performing titles were by publisher Coffee Stain, these titles are Goat Simulator 3, Deep Rock Galactic, and Welcome to Bloxburg.
There is also a notable omission from this list, such as the infamously underwhelming Saints Row reboot. While it’s no mystery that the game was received poorly and failed to meet expectations, it’s particularly surprising not even seeing it as part of their back catalog.
Meanwhile, both Evil West and Goat Simulator 3 came to a strong critical and commercial launch, the former of which is developed by developers of the Painkiller and Shadow Warrior series, Flying Wild Hog, while the latter is developed by Coffee Stain Studios.
Evil West received praise for its old-school linear combat-focused structure, with many citing its influences from the 360/PS3 era third-person shooters as both a positive and a negative.
Goat Simulator 3 on the other hand, which is a sequel to the original Goat Simulator and the second game in the Goat Simulator series, received positive critical reception for its silly humor, and outrageous physics.
Embracer Group also has a busy 2023 and beyond. planned with a strong lineup of games starting from last month’s SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, the upcoming Dead Island 2 which is now releasing on April 21st after a 2-month delay, and a bunch of announced titles with no particular release date such as the remake of Alone in The Dark.
The publisher also plans to launch 234 games by March 2026. The publisher has also acquired numerous IPs and studios over the past few months with big name studios such as Eidos Montreal and Crystal Dynamics.
