Embracer Group Completed Crystal Dynamic, Eidos & Square Enix Montreal Deal

More information will be released in a later date.

The inception of 2022 started with an unexpected boom, with the widely renowned Microsoft x Blizzard acquisition that jerked the gaming industry. The significant event seemed to have created a domino effect of studios trying to acquire each other. Other investments of 2022 include Take-Two Interactive acquiring Zynga and Sony purchasing Bungie studio to strengthen its roster.

However, one acquisition has piqued the interest of the community. Embracer Group announced the acquisition of Crystal Dynamic, Square Enix Montréal, and Eidos-Montréal just a few months ago. The potential reason of the unexpected acquisition being to save its games. Montreal Studio and various fan-favorite IPs are coming along for the ride. Embracer Group has shown particular interest in the portfolio-rich IPs retaining global potential.

After the acquisition, Embracer Group will acquire the rights to more than 50+ well-beloved intellectual properties like Tomb Raider and Deus Ex. Embracer Group is looking to invest and reignite these IPs. The western subsidiary of Square Enix will also fall under the umbrella of Embracer Group sooner than expected.

Embracer Group has just announced the massive news that the acquisition with Crystal Dynamic, Square Enix Montréal, and Eidos-Montréal is completed. The announcement states, “All conditions for the transaction, including regulatory approvals, have now been fulfilled, and the transaction may be completed. Embracer has, therefore, today completed the acquisition.

No exact date has been specified as of yet. However, Embracer Group has also tackled that question to quench curiosity. The company continued to elaborate, “Further information will be given by the companies and Embracer Group at a later date.” Moreover, the announcement cited, “The companies will form the 12th operative group under the leadership of Phil Rogers and his management teams.”

More information was announced back on May 2, 2022, in a press release. Lars Wingefors, Co-founder and Group CEO of Embracer Group, stated in the press release, “We are thrilled to welcome these studios into the Embracer Group. We recognize the fantastic IP, world class creative talent, and track record of excellence that have been demonstrated time and again over the past decades.”

Moreover, the company noted, “It has been a great pleasure meeting the leadership teams and discussing future plans for how they can realize their ambitions and become a great part of Embracer.

The large company boasts “an extensive catalog of over 850 owned or controlled franchises,” and including Crystal Dynamic, Square Enix Montréal, and Eidos-Montréal in its roster will further deepen its growing roots in the gaming industry. Currently, the gaming community is curious about how Embracer Group renovates the dormant yet massively successful IPs.
